We were immediately attracted to its open beauty with well kept properties and country fid.we mad upon this waterfront home we immediately knew it was the house of our dreams. It had expisive country gardens, a small dock for a boat, and spectacular water views as it overleqWwp'011)l Brushes Creek and the mouth of the Peconic. When we saw an active Purple Martin birdFa a i*** gwden, it was the icing on the cake, as we are true nature lovers. Only two weeks after we moved in to our home we found out that the lot adjoining our pitoperly to the east had been just purchased by Frank Kelly. He immediately brought his large RV onto this lot and bpd using it as campground. We were in shock, along with all of our new wonderful neighbors that surround Brushes Creek. We couldn't believe what was happening to our beautiful neighborhood. To make matters worse within a few days he posted at least eight or more "Private Property" and "No Trespassing" signs all around the trees and posts on the lot. As far as we knew, Laurel has an extremely low crime rate and nobody even locks their doors. We don't understand what this guy thinking. In the few short weeks that we have lived here, the entire beauty and ambiance of our surroundings has changed. Since Frank Kelly bought the lot he has been very inconsiderate. of anyone around him and has absolutely no concerns for anyone else's wishes or concerns. Now we are faced with an even more difficult situation. Frank Kelly has now applied for a permit to install a 6 ft. PVC fence, separating our lot from his and running along our entire property line that overlooks the beautift, Brushes Creek and our neighbors on the other side. This will take away so much of our site line to the water will definitely impact the beauty, serenity and neighborly feeling of the e0 re area. We also paid top dollar for our real estate, mostly because of the value in the grounds and especially for the views. There is no doubt that adding an obtrusive fence will certainly depreciate the value of our home and will take away so much of what we bought into. At least 50% of our water views will be affected. Because Mr. Kelly is within 100 feet of the water he needs your permission to proceed. At this time we are asking you to look closely at our neighborhood's style and beauty and not to allow this gentleman to do as he wishes. He has told us that he needs a fence to get insurance on his lot but we have found out from the previous owner that this was never the case for him. Please consider the following points below as only compromises and ideas that we are hoping you will consider if you are not able to refuse him his so-called right to install this monstrosity of a 6 ft fence. Of course, no fence at all is what we are hoping for. 1. If the fence is to prevent trespassing, then a fence with agate across his driveway and just surrounding his parking lot would be suffice. There will never be any trespassers crossing through our property to get onto his property beyond that point. 2. If it were for privacy, then running a fence to the end of our driveway or only until the end of our ` house would be more than sufficient. 3. Another option is to downsize from the 6ft fence after our house ends to a 3ft or 2ft fence down our property line closer to our waterfront. 4. Another compromise would the style of fence. A post and rail, picketed or latticework fence that bushes and flowers can grow through and one that we can somewhat see through, would be much more ideal for the beauty of the neighborhood. A solid PVC fence will look horrendous, if this is what he is planning to use. This is not just our concern as the entire neighborhood on both sides of the creek, and even passersby will be visually affected. Why should one person, with a small plot of commercial property nestled within our neighborhood, be allowed to affect the beauty and feel of an entire community? We believe that Strong's Marina is located in within a residential community and it is not closed in with a 6 ft fence. We realize the law might be on his side on certain issues, but on this fence issue we were told that the Trustees on the Board have the right to prevent this injustice to happen. Along with this letter we have enclosed our land survey, photos of the views from our property and styles of fences that we feel will work well, not only for us, but for the entire community to preserve the landscape of Laurel. I am a 30 year veteran of FDNY, getting ready to leave years in the ghetto, for my retirement in this countrified and peaceful town of Laurel, and am now faced with the possible isolation of a huge and obstructive 6 ft. fence running down our entire property line. We are asking that you please review with your hearts and eyes wide open, and we are praying that you understand our, and the entire community's point of view. Please prevent this fence installation completely, or at least minimize the project to maintain the beauty of the neighborhood. We truly appreciate anything that can be done. Thank you, in advance, for your consideration. Sincerely, Jerry & Linda Morrissey 9- t t1, - . - / f y .22%. 2« » \ . Tom of Southold t. On occasion he has parked a large RV on this property for personal use. In addition I believe that he has requested various permits for the above mentioned property i.e.: oversized PVC fence, shed for various equipment and a shed to house kayaks. As a resident of Laurel for the past 16 years, I (we) have enjoyed the serenity of the creek. The prior owner James Murray maintained this property as a small marina which it is zoned for. He considered his neighbors and surrounding residents by renting to avid boaters who respected the creek and area. I'm not sure what Mr. Kelly's intentions are but I fell he is trying to change the pristine character of Brush's creek. In addition to the numerous "Do Not Trespass" signs. He is in the process of creating an eye soar. I realize that this is a commercial property and the zoning is different, but please note that this is in a residential area, not "Main Street" commercial. At this time I am requesting that you keep the Laurel residents as a priority and act accordingly when granting these permits. Please amend or reject the approval of permits for the structures and fencing that Mr. Kelly can erect. Thank you c - Mary Lou Palmer - 85 Mesrobian Drive Laurel, N.Y. 631298 5667 August 10, 2014 Southold Building Dept. Trustees To whom it may concern; Re Brush's Creek Marina, Peconic Bay Blvd., Laurel The purpose of my letter is to request consideration at a hearing on Wednesday night at Town Hall. I feel the need make the Trustees aware of the ramifications involved in granting several permits to the new owner Mr. Kelly. For the more than fifty decades the Murrays owned the little marina without disturbing the pristine ambiance of Brush's creek. The residents would appreciate that it remains a small local commercial spot for boat renters. At this time I am requesting consideration for denial or amending such permits. i am the neighbor adjacent to the property and this will definitely impact me as a home owner and my future property value. l am a new widow trying to adjust to normal everyday living As my daily therapy I enjoy walking on the Blvd. and taking a breather by the Brush's Creek bridge before returning home, with several sheds and fencing, not to mention the bold "Do Not Trespass" signs it just breaks my heart. Please consider mine and my neighbors when the Trustees make their decision.
