Box 1179 Southold, New York 11971-0959 1 Fax(631) 765-1823 Telephone(631) 765 1889 OFFICE OF THE SUPERVISOR TOWN OF SOUTHOLD Economic Development Committee (EDC) Meeting Minutes August 07, 2014 Present: Steve Latham, John Stype, Carolyn Fahey, Rona Smith, Councilman Bill Ruland, and Phillip Beltz. Also present: Heather Lanza, Planning Director. Excused/Absent: Donielle Cardinale, Tony Cocheo, Linton Duell, Ian Wile and Supervisor Scott Russell. Meeting began at 2:35 p.m. Mattituck Pilot Farmers' Market: The market closed in July due to lack of support from the public and declining interest of vendors to participate. Mary Ann Krupski was offered an opportunity to meet with EDC to discuss in the future. Most EDC members remarked that the day and time was not conducive to attracting crowds. Bill remarked that residents have an allegiance to specific farm stands. Utopia Home Care: Phillip reported that they are submitting an application to the NYS Dept. of Health and will need to have an inspection of the proposed site (Peconic Land Community Center) for Home Health Aid instruction. Capital One Building: It is reported that the building is sold. Development of Fishers Island Cultural Consortium: Phillip and Carolyn reported attending several meetings towards the development of a cultural consortium that would include Lighthouse Works, Friends of Fishers Island Theatre, Ferguson Museum, Island Concerts, the library and school. This collaboration will work to initiate a series of cultural events in the summer of 2015. There is also consideration for establishing an "Arts District" for the western part of Fishers Island. Pat Snyder of East End Arts and Michelle Stark of Suffolk County are supporting these efforts. The identification of funding opportunities will help make this vision become a reality. 375th Anniversary: Phillip reported that the Town has appointed a committee that will develop initiatives to celebrate its 375th anniversary in 2015. As previously discussed, the EDC will partner with the North Fork Promotion Council in concert with Hamptons Visitors Council in celebrating the 375 anniversaries of Southold and Southampton to stimulate business activity through tourism. The last two weeks in September have been targeted for developing collaborative promotional events with both Towns celebrating their heritage, food and wine, culture, etc. with anticipation of seeking funding from Suffolk County for hotel/motel tax. The North Fork Promotion Council and Hamptons Visitors Council will meet with their respective legislators (Krupski and Schneiderman) before September to request funding. Host Document Shredding for Businesses: Follow-up email from Solid Waste District director Jim Bunchuck. He reported that no other Long Island municipality offers this service because it is costly to provide to businesses (approximately $500 per customer) and should be "security-certified." Suggestion that EDC issue a survey via the chambers or via the Town's website to query shredding needs of local businesses. Next Meeting Date/Time: To be determined. Meeting ended at 3:42 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Phillip Beltz
