Meeting of January 17~ 19~ t ~pecial joint meeting of the Southold Town Board and Southo~d Town Trustees wms held in the Village Hall at Greenport~ on Monday~ January 17~ !9~%. The meeting was called to order at 8 o'clock P.M. with the following present: Supervisor Klipp; Justices Tuthill~ Albertson~ and Demarest; Town ltt~mney Terry; Town Trustees Emmons Dean~ John McNulty ~nd Frank Dawson and Town ~lerk Booth. A ~roup of b~nen of ti~e Town of Southold were present to dis- cuss the taking of bug esco!lops from the w~ters of Southold Town that ~re in a depth of w~ter ~hera they are frequently exposed to freezing. On motion of Justice Demarest; seconded bM Justice Albertson: RESOLUTION OF SOUTHOLD T©~,/N BOARD ADOPTED AT A I~ETING OF SAID BOARD ON MOND~Y~ JANUA?Y 17~ WHEREAS~ a representative group of baymen of the Town of South- old have advised the Town Trustees that in certain Southold Town waters large Ruantities of escallops known as "bug" escallops~ or escallops without a clearly defined annual growth line~ are in a depth of w~ter where they are f~equently exposed to freezing~ and have requested that permission be gr8nt'ed for takin~ such escallops in the Town waters herein- after described~ and WHERE~S~ the Town Trustees of the Town of Southold have re- quested that the Town Board take such action as it deems proper~ and request the Conservation Department to permit the taking of such escallops~ sad WHERE~S~ the Town Board of the Town of Southold has given the matter serious consideration and deems it to be in the best interests of the people of t~e Town of bouthold that such per- mission be granted~ NOW~ THEREFORE~ BE IT RESOLVED~ that~ due to the imminent dan- ger of loss of large quantities of escallops by freezing~ the Supervisor be ~nd he hereby id authorized and directed to re- quest that the Conservation Dep~rtment of the State of New York take immediate steps pursuant to the provisions of Section 156 of the Conservation Law to permit the ~aking of such escallops in certain Southold Town waters known as (1) Gidds Bay~ (2) the flats off Laughing W~ters~ ~nd (3~ the northeast side of Goose Bay up to 1500 feet west of Goose Bay Bridge~ in an amount not over five bushels per person per day~ in ~ny manner e×cept power~ on or before April 1~ i9~5~ in a depth of water not over 2 feet at mesu low tide~ thor all other regulations pertaining to the manner and time of t~king escallops: except as requested to be modified he~ein~ remain in full force and effect~ ~nd that the Supervisor t~ke whatever steps he deems necessary and proper to assure the grant~ng of such p~emission. Vote of Town Board : Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justice Tuthill~ JuStice Albertson~ Justice Demarest. Supervisor Kllpp-declared the foregoing resolution duly adopted.
