Subject: Shelter Island Cable Permit-Southold Side
LIPA is planning on installing a new 13kV distribution cable from Island View Lane, Greenport to
West Neck Rd., Shelter Island to replace an existing 13kV distribution cable feeding Shelter Island
that faulted during Hurricane Sandy. The work consists of horizontal directional drilling from Shelter
Island, (3) 10" HDPE conduits under Pipes Cove to a drill / receiving pit on Island View Lane. The
conduit will then be extended — 200' in a trench from the drill pit to Riser P#55 on Bay Shore Rd. .
(3) 1000kcmil copper cables will then be pulled through one of the conduits (leaving the other two as
spares). The pulling rig for the conduit will be set up on the corner of Island View La and Bay Shore
Rd. A passable traffic lane will be maintained at all times on both Bay Shore Road and Island View
Lane. We will have flaggers and traffic protection set up.
Work is estimated to begin the week of April 8th, 2013 and be complete by the end of May, 2013.
Work will be seven days a week, 12 hours a day during the drilling operation.
