Present
Absent:

Councilman George L. Penny IV
Councilwoman Ruth D. Oliva
Councilwoman Ellen M. Larsen
Town Clerk Judith T. Terry
Justice Raymond W. Edwards
SUPERVISOR MURPHY: This is a hearing on a proposed "Local Law in Relation
to Sewers", dealing mainly with Fishers Island. Judge Edwards, I might
say, was here today, and there is a very large drill from Millstone tomorrow,
that he would like to participate in, so he went back early this afternoon,
because he wouldn't be able to be back in time. The official notice to be
read by Councilwoman Cochran.
COUNCILWOMAN COCHRAN: Thank you, sir. "Public Notice is hereby given
that there has been presented to the Town Board of the Town of Southold,
Suffolk County, New York, on the 1st day of November, 1988, a Local Law
entitled, "A Local Law in Relation to Sewers".
Notice lis further given that the Town Board of the Town of Southold will
hold a public hearing on the aforesaid Local Law at the Southold Town Hall,
Main 'P~oad, Southold, New York, on the 15th day of November, 1988, at 8:07
o'clock P.M., at which time all interested persons will be heard.
This Proposed "Local Law in Relation to Sewers" reads as follows:
BE IT' ENACTED by: the Town Board of the Town of Southold as follows:
I. Chapter 76 (Sewers) of the Code of the Town of Southold is hereby
amended as follows;
1. Section 76-21.A. is hereby amended to read as follows:
A. In addition to any and all other fees and charges provided by
law, the owner of a parcel of land served by the sanitary
sewer system ot~ the Fishers Island Sewer District shall pay
an annual sewer rent for the use of such sanitary sewer
system, which shall be based upon an annual charge of one
hundred seventy-five dollars ($175.) for each separate dwelling
unit served by the system. Such annual sewer rents shall be
paid in semiannual installments of eighty seven dollars and fifty
cent ($87.50) on the first days of January and June of each
year.
II. This Local Law shall take effect upon its filing with Secretary of
State.
Copies of said Local Law are available in the Office of the Town Clerk to any
interested persons during business hours. Dated: November 1, 1988. Judith
T. Terry, Southold Town Clerk"
I have an affidavit of printing for Long Island Watchman-Traveler, also an
Pg - 2 - LL Sewers
affidavit of printing from the Suffolk Times. I also have an affidavit from
our Town Clerk, Judith Terry, that has been posted on the Town Clerk's
Bulletin Board, and there are no further communications. Thank you.
SUPERVISOR MURPHY: Thank you, Jean. I don't think there will be too
many comments on this one either, but just for the record, it is a small
sewer district on Fishers Island, an area where at one time they were pumping
the raw sewage, the old government property, out into the Sound~. and through
the coop~ration~of the Stage, the County, the Town and FIDCOr over there,
this was built, and its operating very well. We've done a little bit mo~'e to
probably try and clean up the ~at~rs in this area. So asking is there any
comments on this proposed Local Law? On the left? (No response.) In the
middle? (No response.) Over on the right? (No response.) Any Town Board
member? (No response.) Hearing none, I'll close the public hearing.
