Town of Southold Youth Bureau Board Minutes
July 14, 2014
YB Present:
Laura Held, Robert Duffin, Karen McLaughlin, Councilman Bill Ruland, Councilman
Excused:
Jim Dinizio and Phillip Beltz. Andrea Nydegger, Cristina Witzke, Jillian Ruroede, Sarah
Benjamin, Patricia Mellas, Elaine White, Jeff Standish and Officer Bill Brewer.
Approval of Minutes
The minutes of June 09, 2014 were approved.
Youth Advisory Council (YAC) Membership:
Tabled.
Follow-Up Report:
The North Fork Ospreys Youth Bureau All-Star night was well-attended. Bob
reported that there were many bags of popcorn served to the audience that was
very appreciative.
Movie Night: Phillip reported that movie “Lego” will be shown on Saturday, August
th
16 as he could not obtain rights to the movie “Up.” Popcorn will also be served.
Volunteers will be needed.
Suffolk County Summer Works Program:
Five students are employed for the summer
with one working into the year at the Human Resource Center.
Suffolk County Youth Bureau Funding:
The Town was informed that they will receive
full funding this year for its youth development programs, a meeting will be held in
Hauppauge to discuss funding.
Facebook:
Crissy continues to post events and announcements.
East End Youth Regional Needs Assessment Public Meeting:
A meeting is
scheduled with the Suffolk County Youth Board director to discuss its findings and
recommendations.
Herb Boxes for HRC:
Karen reported that the Southold High School industrial arts
students will build them in the fall.
Intergenerational Project Nexus Tablets:
Karen stated that thirteen additional tablets
will be utilized by the adult day care seniors with assistance from Mattituck students.
Greenport students will work with seniors to develop biographies and Peconic Landing
will expand upon its mentoring program.
Other:
There will be discussion of goals and objectives for the Youth Bureau at the next
meeting.
Next Meeting Date and Time:
Meeting ended 5:18 p.m. No meeting in August, to be set
in September.
