COUNCILMAN SCHONDEI3ARE: "Public Notice is hereby given that there has been
presented to the Town Board of the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, New York, on
the 9th day of September, 1986, a Local Law entitled, "A Local Law in relation to the
disposal of discarded vehicles and discarded fuel tanks at the Town Refuse Disposal
Area". Notice is further given that the Town Board of the Town of Southold will hold
a public hearing on the aforesaid Local Law at the Southold Town Hall, Main Road,
Southold, New York, on the 23rd day of September, 1986, at 8:05 o'clock P.M., at
which time all interested persons will be heard. This proposed Local Law reads as
follows, to wit:
BE IT ENACTED by the Town Board of the Town of Southold as follows:
(additiOns indicated by underline)
I. Section 48-3 (d) (T---0~-~ refuse disposal area) of Chapter 48 of the Code of the
'rown of Southold is amended by adding thereto the following:
D. The attendant at the Town refuse area is authorized to prohibit the disposal

Copies of said Local Law are available in the Office of the Town Clerk to any interested
persons during business hours. Dated: September 9, 1986. Judith T. Terry, Southold
Town Clerk."
Basically what we've done is delete one part of it and added another part, and
that is any tank at the Southold Landfill which has a capacity--a fuel tank of a capacity
in excess of 550 gallons will be refused by the Gate Attendant.
I have an affidavit of publication, of that notice by The Long Island Traveler-
Watchlman, and an affidavit of publication by The Suffolk Times, and affidavit by the
Town Clerk of posting same on the Town Clerk's Bulletin Board. That's it on the
reading. The basic purpose of this is that as time goes on and gas stations, etcetera,
must comply with some of the requirements of the State with regards to their fuel oil
tanks, we don't have the means nor the ability to get rid of these at the Landfill, so
we're prohibiting them from being dumped at our Landfill.

SUPERVISOR MURPHY: The idea is they can go to commercial people who do this
for a living. Is there anyone would like to speak on behalf of this proposed Local
Law? (No response.) Anyone like to speak in opposition to the proposed Local Law?
(No response.) Anyone like to comment at all to the Town Board on the proposed
Local Law? (No response.) Any members of the Town Board like to comment on it?
(No response.) Okay, we'll close this public hearing.
