HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/2014 July 03, 2014 To: Town Board Fr: Phillip Beltz Re: JUNE 2014 SUMMARY REPORT-SPECIAL PROJECTS COORDINATOR Housing:  Facilitated Housing Advisory Commission (HAC) meeting and disseminated minutes.  Continued work with Habitat for demolition of blighted site. Addressed several complaints regarding overgrown brush and grass on site. Notification that “partner” candidate was selected for home ownership, issued “certificate of eligibility” for candidate (Michael Bredemeyer of Orient.)  Meeting with housing registry candidate to vet application.  Responded to several queries regarding CPF exemption for first-time homebuyers that was passed by NYS Senate and Assembly, awaiting governor’s signature.  Attended Code Committee meeting.  Meeting with Rona Smith regarding possible affordable housing and land preservation initiative. Youth Bureau:  Facilitated Youth Bureau Board meeting.  Organized pizza party for graduating seniors of Youth Advisory Council.  Finalized supervision of Mattituck senior, Christian Montgomery.  Continued meeting with Southampton and Riverhead Youth Bureau directors and aides of Legislators Krupski and Schneiderman for development of East End Youth Needs Assessment.  Finalized preliminary draft of East End youth needs assessment and disseminated to Suffolk County Youth Bureau staff.  Meeting with Suffolk County Dept. of Labor for implementation of Summer Works program. Interviewed five applicants for participation, reviewed and prepared paperwork. Facilitated the ability of one student to continue work at HRC part-time after summer.  Attended Suffolk County Youth Board Coordinating Council meeting. Disseminated meeting minutes.  Attended Suffolk County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council meeting.  Attended East End Partnership for Youth committee meeting to develop conference for youth service providers as well as student leadership conference. Comprehensive Plan:  No report. Economic Development:  Visited pilot Mattituck Farmers Market on Love Lane, vendors appeared to be very pleased with the operation and level of business activity.  Facilitated Economic Development Committee meeting and disseminated minutes.  Coordinated meeting with Utopia Home Care and Town Board for their request to offer educational classes at Peconic Lane Community Center for home health aides. Provided letter of support for Supervisor.  Facilitated meeting with Justice Evans, Carolyn Fahey, Lighthouse eveloping Fellowship, and Friends of Fishers Island Theatre. Discussion of d informal working group of Fishers Island Cultural Consortium to consist of the Lighthouse Fellowship, Theater, Ferguson Museum, Island Concerts, Fishers Island School District, Fishers Island Library and Fishers Island Ferry District. The consortium would showcase cultural activities. Also discussed development of western Fishers Island as “arts district” to attract tourists. Follow-up meeting scheduled for July.  Meeting with resident who recently moved back to Southold to explore ideas for new business development.  With Councilman Ruland, meeting with Jim Bunchuck to discuss provision of paper shredding for local businesses. Jim will develop a survey to assess what the shredding needs are of business community.  Provided economic development initiatives to assist Melissa Spiro with bonus points for grant submission to NYS Dept. of Ag. & Mkts. Community Development:  Acquired release of funds dates for installation of showers for emergency shelter operations at Peconic Lane Community Center and Katinka House. Executive Safety:  Facilitated Executive Safety Committee meeting.  Facilitated and accompanied Workers Compensation provider for annual site visit of Town facilities.  Coordinated with Workmen’s Comp. provider mandatory training for employees in August and developed memo from Supervisor regarding scheduled training. Other:  Responded to one citizen request on Town website regarding duck blinds, referred to Town Trustees.  Facilitated Supervisor appearance on WLNG.  Facilitated meeting with Dept. of Public Works and Recreation for consideration of “Little Libraries” for Southold Free Library to provide reading material for residents at several Town beaches.  Attended quarterly meeting of website committee.  On behalf of Supervisor, attended East End Supervisors and Village Mayors Association meeting.  Attended Earthfest celebration at Southold Elementary School.  Developed Community Notices advertisement for the Suffolk Times.  Attended Parks and Recreation Committee meeting.  With Supervisor, meeting with Superintendent Gamberg and Cablevision to discuss student broadcasting and communications curriculum and utilization of Channel 22.
