Box 1179 Southold, New York 11971-0959 Fax (631) 765-1823 Telephone (631) 765-1889 OFFICE OF THE SUPERVISOR TOWN OF SOUTHOLD Economic Development Committee (EDC) Meeting Minutes June 13, 2014 Present: Steve Latham, John Stype, Tony Cocheo, Linton Duell, Rona Smith, Councilman Bill Excused/Absent: Ruland, and Phillip Beltz. Carolyn Fahey, Donielle Cardinale, Ian Wile and Supervisor Scott Russell. Meeting began at 2:30 p.m. Follow-Up Report:  Mattituck Pilot Farmers’ Market: The market operation has been well-received by the community and viewed as “successful.’  Utopia Home Care: The Town Board supported their request to utilize the Peconic Lane Community Center for Home Health Aid instruction. Phillip will provide a letter of support for the Supervisor. Local Development Corporation: The Town Board adopted a resolution creating the LDC and naming five directors to its board. Suffolk County Downtown Revitalization Funding Opportunity: Requesting funds for revitalization of the theater in Fishers Island will be considered in 2015 as the scope of the project and budget will not be ready by grant deadline. Fishers Island Meeting with Lighthouse Works and Friends of FI Theatre: Phillip reported that he and Carolyn met with Councilwoman Evans and directors of Lighthouse Works and Friends of Fishers Island Theatre to discuss development of “Cultural Consortium“of several non-profit institutions as well as an “Arts District” for western part of Fishers Island. The meeting was very productive and the concept will be further developed with time, a July meeting is scheduled. th 375 Anniversary: Phillip reported that he and Carolyn discussed the possibility of the Town th partnering with Southampton who will also celebrate their 375 anniversary. Consideration of having the North Fork Promotion Council and Hamptons Visitors Council leading efforts to procure Suffolk County hotel/motel tax funding to offer collaborative tourism initiative to bring in visitors who will spend the night in either Town to celebrate anniversaries. Need to find time of year amendable to host celebration. Phillip will explore with Joan Bischoff of North Fork Promotion Council. EDC in total support of collaboration to benefit local businesses. Brainstorming Session for Capital One Building: At the next meeting EDC will brainstorm ideas about recruiting potential applicants for Capital One Building as this property has languished and will not be a priority for realtor attempting to sell on behalf of bank. EDC would like some additional information such as set-up sheets, can it be leased? Can it be subdivided? Any other restrictions and conditions that are part of the sale? Additional 2014 Goals and Objectives: Discussion of several outstanding items:  Document shredding for businesses. Councilman Ruland and Phillip will meet with Jim Bunchuck of Solid Waste District to discuss implementation, possibly allow the same day as residential shredding but different hours.  Table discussion with businesses regarding benefits of having bus shelters in hamlet centers as most will not want them.
