A meeting of the Southold Town Trustees was held at the Town Clerk
Office on Monday, November 9, 1970 at 7:30 P.M. with the following
present: ~lvah B. Goldsmith, George Simpson, Douglas Robertson,
John F. McNulty, Frank Dawson and Marion Regent, Secretary.
The minutes of the meeting of October 6, 1970 were read and app~ed.
Application of Herbert Lindfreit and Charles Burst to dredge a canal
175' by 45' wide in Corey Creek, Southold, in front of their own
property and fill an area with approximately t600 cu. Yd. of fill
to protect shoreline was approved, all in accordance with the
application submitted. Fee $64.00.
Application of Harold G. Baldwin, Mattituck, N.Y. to fill his property
in James Creek b~ dredging 5000 cu. yd. in front of said property
was discussed. The Trustees, after inspecting the area, concluded
that it would necessitate dredging excessive depths to obtain 5000
· ~. yds. of material and requested that Mr. Baldwin appear at the
next meeting of the Trustees to discuss the matter. -~'~.
Application of Dr. Joseph J. Lizewski was returned again for a more
accurate diagram of the work he w~shes to do in Moose Cove, Cutchogue.
Application of John M. Hollis., Cedar Beach, Southold, to place a
stake in Laughing Water was granted all in accordance with the
application submitted. Fee $1.00 paid.
Application of Steve Mitacchione to dredge in Eugene Creek 700 ft.
x 40' to a depth of 4' below low water mark was inspected, discussed
and disapproved unanimously by the Town Trustees.

After the Town Trustee Meeting a joint meeting of the Trustees and
the Southold Planning Board was held with minutes being recorded as
follows by Howard Terry:
At a joint meeting of the Planning Board and the Town Trustees, held
on Nov. 9, 1970 the problems of our wetlands and other similar and
valuable spaces were thoroughly discussed.
Both the Planning Board and Trustees are continuously being blasted
for permitting dredging in and filling of th~se wetlands and open
spaces.
It was agreed that these areas should be preserved in their natural
state.
A motion was made by Trustee George Simpson and seconded by Planning
Board member Frank Coyle and unanimously carried that the two Boards
jointly request the Town Board to immediately pass an ordinance pro-
hibiting dredging in and filling in of these wetlands and open areas
without permits from some Town authority.
Also some guide lines should be established for issuing any such
permit by any designated Town body.

Application of Ann P. O'Sullivan for one stake in Corey
Creek, Southold, was granted, all in accordance with the
application submitted. $1.00 paid.

At a Joint meeting of the Planning Board and the
Town Trustees~ held on ~ovember 9th~ the problems of our wetlands
a~M other similar and valuable open spaces were thouroughly
discussed.
Both the Planning Board and Trustees are continously
being blasted for permitting dredging in and filling of these
wetlands and open spaces.
It was agreed that these areas should be preserved in
their natural stae.
A motio~ was made b~ George Simpson (Trustee) and seconded
by Frank CoYle (Planning Board) and unaniomously carried that the
two Boards Jointly request the Town Board to immediately pass an
ordinanoe prohibiting dredging in and filling in oftthese wetlands
and open areas without permits from some Town authority.
Also some guide lines should be established for issuing
any sueh permit by any designated Town body.
