Re: MARCH 2014 SUMMARY REPORT-SPECIAL PROJECTS COORDINATOR
Housing:
Facilitated Housing Advisory Commission (HAC) meeting and disseminated
minutes.
Continue work with Habitat for Humanity-public notice posted for transfer of
Community Development Block Grant funds from Peconic Lane Community
Center to Habitat for demolition. Meeting with newly hired construction
manager, Walt Mackey, regarding demolition of site. To date, Habitat has
eliminated two applicants due to very low credit scores.
With Fred Andrews of HAC, meeting with Town Board to further consider
participation in CPF tax exemption for first-time homebuyers. Forwarded
follow-up communication to Senator LaValle's counsel.
Attended Code Committee meeting regarding development of affordable
apartments in Hamlet Business districts.
Discussion with developer proposing 25% of apartments targeted to
veterans-to be vetted by HAC.
Youth Bureau:
Facilitated Youth Bureau board meeting and disseminated minutes.
Facilitated Youth Advisory Council community service activity in preparing
and serving meal for homeless at John's Place at Mattituck Presbyterian
Church.
Continued supervision of Mattituck senior, Christian Montgomery.
With Southampton and Riverhead Youth Bureau directors, meeting to
develop strategy for development of East End youth needs assessment and
data collection. Began research to collect relevant data. Also facilitated
meeting with aides of Legislators Schneiderman and Krupski.
At request of SC Youth Bureau director Reverend Pearson, attended meeting
to assist with the development and implementation of performance measures
for human service agencies.
Attended meeting of Long Island Youth Bureau Association in Melville.
With Chief Flatley and Officer Brewer, attended "Youth Forum" meeting with
60+ high school students at Founders Landing to ascertain their perceptions
of benefits and problems living in Southold. A formal report is forthcoming.
Meeting of "East End Partnership for Youth" to develop conference for youth
service providers.
Meeting with Crissy Witzke (Youth Bureau board) and Lloyd Reisenberg
regarding development of Facebook page for Youth Bureau.
Comprehensive Plan:
No report.
Economic Development:
Facilitated the Economic Development Committee (EDC) meeting with small
business farmers and disseminated minutes. Meeting with Town Board to
discuss pilot farmers' market initiative. Follow-up meeting with Town Attorney
and Chief Building Inspector that will require farmers market to obtain a
Special Events permit.
Continued recruitment for business participation of Youth Job and Internship
Fair for high school and returning college students. Nine employers recruited
to date.
Community Development:
2014 administrative summary reporting for March CDBG administration funds
from Suffolk County.
Development of Public Notice to inform public of budget modification to
transfer funding allocation from Peconic Lane Community Center to Habitat
for Humanity for demolition.
Executive Safety:
With Jeff Standish, meeting with Justice Court clerks regarding leakage into
office.
Facilitated Executive Safety & Loss Control meeting.
Other:
Developed "Community Notices" advertisement for Suffolk Times.
Responded to one citizen request on Town website regarding street lighting
Developed report of highlights for Supervisor's State of the Town address.
Attendance of State of the Town address.
Meeting with Group for the East End to plan "America Recycles Day" public
education meeting (November 2014.)
Meeting with Mary Eisenstein regarding development of volunteer program to
address conflict resolution in the community.
