Marion A. Regent. Secretary. BOARD OF TOWN TRUSTEEs TOWN OF SOUTHOLD January 14, 1971 Mr. Richard Nagy 283 Watchung Avenue Bloomfield, New Jersey Dear Mr. Nagy; The Southold Town Trustees wish to acknow- ledge receiD5 of your complainL regarding poss£ble alterations to the existing beach" at Major's Pond and would like to state that the subject matter of your letter of January 12 addressed to Mr. Douglas Robertson of Orient, regarding the matter, was discussed at the Trustees, Meeting held on January 4, 1971, by reason of another person's criticism. As stated in reply to this other party, the Trustees are of the opinion that the bottom land of Major's Pond is private property belonging to Douglas Latham or Mr. Robert Douglass and therefore is excluded from Trustee jurisdiction. Since the Southold Town Planning Board has authority to regulate and Contr61 dredging or excavating when ~ertinent to a subdivision or where it might affect the potable Water Supply of the area, the problems of Major's Pond has been referred to that Board. Furthermore, Orient Harbor is not considered Town Property but under State control and any bulk- heading, jetties, or dredging would normally require their approval or permit. It is also our knowledge and belief that no permit for work, which you have outlined in your letter, has been authorized by any department of local government. We trust that infornlatJen which ma~ be forthcoming to you from the Town Planning Board may further resolve your difficulty. Sotlthold TOWtl TI'LIS tees ~ Albah B. Goldsmith, President
