Economic Development Committee (EDC) Meeting Minutes
March 18, 2014
Present: Steve Latham, Donielle Cardinale, Rona Smith, Amy Maguire Burns, Carolyn Fahey,
Councilman Bill Ruland, Supervisor Scott Russell and Phillip Beltz. Also present: Maryann
Krupski, Donna Burden and Danielle LaScala. Excused/Absent: John Stype, Tony Cocheo,
Linton Duell and Ian Wile. Meeting began at 2:05 p.m.
Support of "Pilot" Farmers' Market Request: Discussion of presentation of talking points
with the Town Board for "pilot" Farmers' Market request. Maryann distributed copies of the
"Mattituck's East End Farmer's Market Criteria" and "Vendor Application." Maryann will forward
an edited copy prior to Tuesday that will be forwarded to the Town Board. Carolyn suggested
additional resources to assist the vendors and will forward to Maryann.
Local Development Corporation: Phillip reported that an advertisement soliciting members
for Board of Directors has been placed with the Suffolk Times and the Fishers Island Fog Horn.
Internship and Job Fair: Phillip requested that EDC solicit additional businesses to participate
in the Fair.
Additional 2014 Goals and Objectives: Discussion regarding the following:
• Fishers Island access to resources. Carolyn and Phillip will visit Fishers Island in late
April or early May and meet with Lighthouse Works Fellowship to discuss strategic
planning. Will also meet with other businesses.
• Document shredding for businesses. Councilman Ruland stated that this should not
incur any expense and Phillip will coordinate with Jim Bunchuck of Solid Waste District.
• Sponsor discussion 'Working from Home and Entrepreneurship." Rona suggested
hosting discussion in summer when second-homeowners will be in Town. Carolyn will
invite the "Small Business Development Centers" to participate as they provide technical
assistance to small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs.
Other: Councilman Ruland suggested further outreach to the business community regarding
the Town's ability to help them, such as the Business Liaison position established by the Town
Board. Phillip will develop an announcement for Suffolk Times advertisement regarding the
business liaison position.
