"x. .00, Southold, New York 11971-0959 4' Fax (631) 765-1823 Telephone (631) 765-1889 OFFICE OF THE SUPERVISOR TOWN OF SOUTHOLD Economic Development Committee (EDC) Meeting Minutes February 18, 2014 Present: Donielle Cardinale, John Stype, Rona Smith, Amy Maguire Burns, Tony Cocheo, Linton Duell, Carolyn Fahey, Councilman Bill Ruland and Phillip Beltz. Also present: Maryann Krupski, Gene Krupski, Dona Burden, Danielle LaScala and Chris Baiz. Excused: Steve Latham, Ian Wile and Supervisor Scott Russell. Meeting began at 2:05 p.m. Farmers' Market Request: Chris Baiz stated that the Southold Agricultural Advisory Committee had discussed the proposed market and is supportive of the request providing that it follows New York State Ag and Markets law, he provided a contact name of Bob Somers in Albany. The EDC Committee comments included: Marketing should emphasize that site is located on public transportation line (S92) and near the Town's senior center, ensure that it takes WIC and SNAP, at least 75% of products should be local, develop a Board of Directors, do not allow to become a flea market, reconsider proposed day and hours of operations (Fridays from 3 until 6 p.m.) Councilman Ruland, Amy, Linton and Phillip will meet with Mike Verity, Building Dept. director, to explore how this request could be accommodated within the Town code as a "pilot" program. Status of SC Commercial and Industrial Incentive Program: Carolyn reported that Southold and Mattituck schools did not vote to opt out of the program Local Development Corporation: Councilman Ruland reported that several Town Board members met with several local non-profit organizations to assess whether they would benefit from the Town's creation of a LDC. All indicated that they face challenges when they try to finance expansion and/or enhancements to their current services and that they could benefit from the creation of LDC. He stated that the Town Board has engaged a consultant to assist the Town Attorney in creating an LDC and that the Town will be recruiting a Board of Directors. Internship and Job Fair: Phillip distributed letters for EDC to solicit businesses to have them participate in the Fair. Other: Councilman Ruland discussed the Lighthouse Works Fellowship program that will engage artists to participate in various artistic venues on Fishers Island.
