' Southold, NY 11971 v, Parks, Beaches and Recreation Committee MINUTES February 18, 2014 Meeting 6:30 P.M. in the Town Hall Conference Room Present were: Chairperson: Arthur Leudesdorf, Members: Jeffery Standish, Ken Reeves, Carlo Gonzalez, Jesse Johnson, John Betsch, Nancy Foote Call to order: Chairperson, Art Leudesdorf called the meeting to order at 6:30 P.M. Below are discussion items: ADA Presentation: Art Leudesdorf reported to the committee that the Reichert Family ADA Playground presentation's final product had been sent to Lloyd Reisenberg for installation onto the Town website. Goldsmiths Inlet Signage - Update on sign proposal: Town Board did not approve the $2,500 requested up front to commence the project. Sponsors would like to see the creation of this sign go forward but the plan does not have overwhelming support from the surrounding community. The discussion has been shelved. Seatow Lifejacket Program - This program was well received by Town Board but Seatow will be reviewing the properties before moving forward this season. Many of the lifejackets were not returned. John Betsch reported to the committee that Joe Fronhoefer would not be installing a station at Klipp Park this year, too many were stolen last year. John will meet with Joe to see if there is money for the program to continue and what properties could be considered. Properties where lifeguards are on duty may be more suitable for the program and/or setting up a system of accountability. Recording driver license numbers or license plate numbers may deter the lifejackets from not being returned. Field Use : Ken Reeves reported he is receiving complaints for the fees charged for field use. There are also teams and/or camps who are in arrears from last season. Jeff Standish voiced concern that certain leagues are taking advantage of Ken. John Betsch clarified that each travel team currently pays $250/season. Ken noted some leagues have 2 or 3 teams with the same kids with multiple seasons. John thought it was an equity issue and some language needed to be changed. Changes to application process was proposed as follows: Teams need to present roster with proof of residence, official schedule and payment before fields can be scheduled. Application is to be signed, notarized and submitted with Certificate of Insurance. $20/game up to 15 games with discounts where warranted. (suggestion: $20/Corcoran game, $10/smaller field) Rainouts will be rescheduled when possible. Ken will make changes to paperwork and forward to committee members for feedback. Art will present to Town Board. 1 Jeff Standish reported on Strawberry Fields. Lions Club would like to hire Briarcliff Landscape to have property reseeded and their organization has offered to cover the cost. The field would need at least a year for it to be game ready. Concerns were addressed in regards to the yearly Strawberry Festival on a newly reseeded field. Jeff believes fescue grass seed should be used which tolerates heat and drought well. This type of grass would rebound from the festival. Jeff asked if Carlos and his teams could move for the year to allow the fields to mend. Carlos has an adult & a women's team who currently use the fields regularly. He will reach out to surrounding schools and has agreed to play on field B at Strawberry Fields if need be until further notice. Ken will not schedule anything on field A. Jeff will talk to Lions Club before changes in scheduling are made. Also noted: Bill Zebroski is ready to consider lease or sale of his property for recreational use. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 PM. The next committee meeting was not scheduled at this time. Respectfully submitted, Nancy Foote Committee Secretary 2
