The Southold Town Trustees met at the Town Clerk Office at 3 P.M. on
Wednesday, Ju~y 6, 1966, after having met at the Orient Wharf at 1:30
P.M~ to examine property.
The Following members were present: Alvah B. Goldsmith, George Simpson,
John F. McNulty, Frank Dawson and Douglas Robertson, Marion Regent, Sec.
Eight residents of Orient were present to inquire about the application
submitted by the.~Oyster Ponds Rod and Gun Club for county dredging in
Narrow River to provide improved channel and harbor. Since these repre-
sentatives were very much against this project and assured the Trustees
that many more people who were unable to be present at the meeting were
also against it, the Trustees assured them that the permit would not
be granted without first holding a public hearing.
Two men appeared before the trustees representing Lizza Asphalt Construc-
tion Co., Inc. They regretted not having obtained a permit before pro-
gressing with the bulkhead and dredging already started in Mattituck
Creek. Several letters of objection to this project have been received
by the Trustees. An application for a permit has now been made to the
Trustees and Mr. Lizza will send a copy of the deed to the Trust~es of
the property before the bulkhead was installed. The Trustees will in-
vestigate this project before taking any action.
Mr. McNulty suggested that all dredqinq operators be notified that they
are not to do any dredqinq in Southold Town waters without being in
possession of a permit by the Town Trustees. Mr. Tasker, Town Attorney,
assured the Trustees that this could be done according to the Ordinance
passed May 18, 1959 which says that no person shall remove any sand,
gravel or other material from lands under Town waters in the Town of
outhold without first obtaining a permit therefor. (Section 1)
