A regular meeting of the Board of Southold To~n Trustees was
held at 7:30 ~p.m., August l, 1978, at the Town Hall, Main Road,
S0uthold, New York. Present were:
President Philip G. Herren
Trustee Scott Harris
Trustee Anna Hataier
Trustee John Nickles
Trustee Paul Stoutenburgh
Douglas Love - L. I. Traveler-Watchman
Peter Campbell - Suffolk Times
Trustee Hataier made a motion, seconded by Trustee St0utenburgh
and carried to approve the minutes of the meeting of July 5, 1978.
On motion made by Trustee Stoutenburgh, seconded by Trustee
'Hataier, it was
RESOLVED to approve the app!zca~_on of Jobna C Baker to place
a 200 lb. mushroom mooring off private property of Anna L. Knowles,
with the permission of Maws. F_nowles, at Richmond Creek.
Vote of the Board: Ayes: Herren, Harris, Hataz~, Nickles,
Stoutenburgh
On motion made by Trustee Hataier, seconded by .Trustee Harris,
it was
RESOLVED to approve the application of Alexander LeDo~e to
place.a 75 lb. mushroom anchor off private property of the applicant
at Goose ~eek.

On motion made by Trustee Hataier, seconded by Trustee Harris,
it was
RESOLVED to approve the application of Andrew J. Asch to place
an offshore stake with pulley line to onshore stake off private
property of John B. Tuthill at Orient Creek, with Mr. Tuthill's
permission.

On motion made by Trustee Harris, seconded by Trustee Hataier,
it was
RESOLVED to approve the application of Charles Guhl to place
a 75 lb. mushroom mooring off.Association property at Gull Pond.

The secretary was directedtowrite a letter to John Geidemann
who assists in the placement of moorings in Gull Pond. As long as
there is no pressure for mooring space, the situation can remain
as is. The Board feels it would be improper.to deny someone a
mooring if other people have a dock and a m0oring~ '
On motion made by Trustee Hataier, seconded by Trustee Harris,
it was
RESOLVED to approve the application of Fred Hribok to place
bottom mooring with pulley to shore off private property of the
~applicant at Arshamomaque Pond.

On motion made by Trustee Harris, seconded by T~stee Hataier,

RESOLVED to ~oprove the application of Gerard P. Goehringer
~'to place a 75 lb. anchor off public property at Mattituck Creek
with the recommendation that letters be sent to the other permit
holders in the area'informing them to line up parallel to each
other or the permits will be revoked, Trustee Hataier was directed
~o followup onthis matter.

On motion made by Trustee Hataier, seconded by Trustee Harris,
it was
RESOLVED to approve the application of Donald R. Grata to
~lace two 100 lb. offshore moorings in Mattituck Creek with access
from private property of Michael Vota, with Mr. Vota's permission.

On motion made by Trustee Hataier, seconded by Trustee Harris,
it was
RESOLVED to approve the application of Joseph N. Vandernuth to
place a 75 lb. mushroom mooring off private property of the
Association at Gull Pond.·

On motion made by Trustee Nickles, seconded by Trustee Harris,
it was
RESOLVED to table the application of Peter Kreh to place a
floating dock off private proPerty at James Creek.
Vote of the Board: Ayes: Horton, Harris., Hataier, Nickles,
Stoutenburgh
There was some questions about the use of the right-of-way.
Mr. Kreh, Mr. Strong and Richard Cron, attorney for Strong's Marina
were in attendance. 2They will work to resolve this problem. The
Board would like a better plan or sketch of the dock that .Mr. Kreh
anticipates erecting.
On motion made by Trustee Hataier, seconded by 'Trustee Harris,
it was
RESOLVED to tabte.-the application of Richard M. Zeisler to
place a £toating~ dock on the West Branch of Mattituck creek off
private property of the applicant pending receipt of the following:
!. Clear survey of the property.
2. Proper location of dock and length into the creek.
3. Sketch of dock with pilings.

On motion made by Trustee Harris, seconded by Trustee Nickles,
it was
RESOLVED to recommend to the Southold Town Board denial of the
application of James Meskouris to remove a 40' by lC' strip of beach
grass to allow access to water for swimming at private property of
the applicant at Mattituck Creek because there is a sign±ficant
amount Of wetlands that would be destroyed. If the purpose is to
create some type of recreational ~spot¥.it would be recommended
that some sort of dock be put in.

On motion made by Trustee Nickles, seconded by Trustee Hataier,
it was
RESOLVED to approve the application of FrederiCk E. Gagen.to
use Town Stake #7 at Sterling Creek.

Roderick Van Tuyl is to be contacted to see what the cost
would be to supply a survey map of each creek in the town so that
j~moorings could be spotted on them.
Robert Dier - The secretary was directed to write to the
~Dept. of Environmental Conservation to find out what guidelines
~Mattamar must following for placing pilings and bulkheading at
the site in Mattituck Creek. The Town Attorney, Robert Tasker, is
to be contacted about the possibility of revoking the permit
issued in 1966 and then reviewing the matter especially the strip
on the south.
After discussionon the matter of the dredging at Cedar
-Beach and subsequent destruction of the tern colony, Trustee
Nickles made a motion that the president write~ a letter to the
North Fork Environment~ Council in response to the Council's
letter according to what the president can determine has occurred
with the other agencies regard!~ng the incident. Trustee
Stoutenburgh seconded the. motion and it was carried.
A letter from John Wickham to the Soil & Water Conservation
District and its reply to Mr. Wickham were reviewed with no comment.
Trustee Harris stated' that the posting of creeks closed is
totally opposite to what the bay constable is tellingpeople. It
says "No Clamming" but people are not allowed in for any other
reason. He asked that a letter be written to the Town Board that
if creeks are closed during seeding, it should state what other

things the public shouldn'tdo. The bay constables when they are
enforcing should tell people that they are allowed to catch crabs
or whatever.
The next meeting of the Board of Town Trustees will be held
September 5, 1978.
There being no further business to come before the board,
Trustee Hataier made a motion, seconded by Trustee Nickles
carried that the meeting be adjourned. Meeting adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
