PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR BACKGROUND CHECKS: Letters were mailed earlier
this month to all 2014 recreation department program instructors requesting permission for
our local police department to conduct a background check. Part of the letter states:
The Town of Southold has established a new policy whereby all instructors and
employees must have an annual background check performed by the town's police
department. Background checks are a necessary part of being hired or for
continuation of employment. They are not meant to offend or to invade privacy; they
are conducted merely to assure the safety of employees, customers, and
participants.
