MONTHLY REPORT: DECEMBER 2013
DO AS YOU PLEASE BUS TRIP: tools place on Wednesday, December 11 to
New York City. Due to the popularity of this trip, we are already planning a trip
for December of 2014.
RADIO CITY CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR BUS TRIP: took place on
Tuesday, December 17 to New York City. This trip sold out rather quickly as we
were able to secure discounted tickets earlier this year.
SANTA'S MAILBOX: Approximately 80 children received a personal reply
from their letters to Santa Claus. This is the 19th year we have offered this
service to resident youth and it is one of our most popular program offerings.
VISIT SANTA CLAUS: was held at Town Hall on Saturday, December 7.
Resident children were delighted at the opportunity to meet Santa and reel off
their list of toys they wanted for Christmas. Every child who attended received a
candy cane and special gifts from Santa. We probably had between 75 - 100
children partake in our program. Our thanks also goes out to Bob Scott for
playing Santa Claus once again this year. He really does a nice job.
WINTER 2014 RECREATION BROCHURE: was finalized and e-mailed to
Tobay Printing Company for printing and was an insert in the Thursday,
November 21 edition of The Suffolk Times. Additionally, the brochure was
available at all local libraries, town hall, local supermarkets, and the recreation
department. People could also access the brochure on the recreation department's
website. Registration has been going strong all month long.
PARKS, BEACHES, & RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING: was held
on December 12 at the annex. Details of this meeting are as follows:
Resignation: Vinny Orlando formally resigned his position as chairperson of the
Park, Beaches and Recreation Committee as of December 31, 2013. The
committee nominated and elected Arthur Leudesdorf as Committee Chairperson
beginning January. Vinny will present resignation and new chair name to the
Town Board on January 2, 2014
New Propertv: The committee discussed Zebroski property, on Route 48 in
Southold for possible purchase for "active" use. The committee will contact the
Land Preservation Department with the concept after obtaining additional
specifics on the property. Mr Zebroski plans to have an appraisal done of the
property.
Field Use: Southold Schools wants to use the Town ball fields from the end of
March thru May every day after school. This mater will be discussed further as
fields may not be available. Facility Rules and Regulations should be reviewed
with the Committee for possible changes to the language and pricing.
Carlos Gonzalez addressed the Committee and thanked them for use of
Strawberry Field for his soccer league. Presently, there is woman's league
forming and will be need to be scheduled on these fields. The other adult league
using field B has disbanded.
