ANTI-BIAS TASK FORCE
SOUTHOLD TOWN ANTI-BIAS TASK FORCE MINUTES DECEMBER 16, 2013
PRESENT: Eleanor Lingo, Mike Domind, Leroy Hiliger, Carolyn Peabody, Jean LePre,
Louise Hug, Loretta Hatzel-Geraci and Cindy Smith
GUEST: Helen Finnegan
There is a motion to accept the minutes with corrections. Eleanor suggests using town
properties for our ABTF meetings.
ERASE RACISM- There is much discussion re: book, criticisms in the news etc.
The ABTF will move forward with fundraising, as well as who to invite(specifrcally
school and business leaders, and conmuntity)
We treed a strategic narrative to address potential members.
The cost It as not been established at this point (possibility is a 70130 split -ABTF=70
SCHOOLS.
Southold- Jean and Mike met with Mr. Gamberg. There is clarification that Southold did
not ban the book. Mike has received conirannication from Mr. Gamberg which indicates
programs to show they are in compliance: uith the Students for Dignity Act. ABTF
members are pleased.: with the communication.
Mattituck- Leroy has an article from student news as well as the school calendar which
represents efforts of omplianee with students far /dignity Act.
Greenport-Cindy missed last meeting as date had been changed due to conflicts with
board members schedules.
MARTIN LUTHER KING - Mattituck church charges $150 for use of their facility.
ABTF decides to call another venue. Orient Congregational Church accepts the invitation
(thanks Carolyn).
The Rabbi front Oreenport temple has accepted the invitation and will do the benediction.
Cindy has contacted CAST and they will do their best to find a student reader for the "I
Have A Dream" Speech.
Cindy's priest has declined the invitation to do the invocation as he has a retreat on the
same date. Marjorie Day may be able to get her minister and request will be made for her
to ask him.
All members will be asked to bring a dish to share.
Parish Outreach will donate sandwich platter,
The theme for MLK celebration 2014 is "Rise Lip Restore the Dream".
NEW BUSINESS:
Carolyn submits a letter she has drafted to be considered for publishing in paper re:
Moslem's and the book on anti Muslim rhetoric. A motion is made to approve the letter
with change in first paragraph. It is seconded by Loretta. All are in favor. Letter will be
signed on behalf of the ABTF.
THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE ON JAN 13, 2014 AS THE, IRD MONDAY IS
MARTIN LLUTFIER KING DAY. THE FEBRUARY MEETING DATE IS ALSO
CIIANGF,D TO FEBRUARY 24tH AS THE THIRD MONDAY IS PRESIDENTS DAY.
THERE WILL ALSO BE A MLK MEETING ON JAN 6 AT Mikes Deli at loam.
