HomeMy WebLinkAboutTrustees- Hallocks Bay Dredging
I of 8 12/9/13
We, the citizens of Southold Town, petition the Southold Town Board of Trustees to prohibit the
commercial dredging of bay scallops in Hallocks Bay, Orient.
Over a period of many years, the eel grass substrate of the bay has virtually disappeared. A
healthy bottom is necessary to provide an ecosystem that will revive and sustain the bay scallop
population. Successive, annual razing of this system disallows a recovery of the eel grass
substrate and subsequently, the bay scallop population.
We petition the Southold Town Board of Trustees to prohibit the commercial g - D
scallops in Hallocks Bay, allowing the bay to recover.
