Town of Southold Youth Bureau Board Minutes
November 18, 2013
YB Present: Jacob Branker, Jeff Standish, Elaine White, Robert Duffin, Sarah
Benjamin, Jillian Ruroede, Andrea Nydegger, Officer Bill Brewer and Phillip Beltz.
Excused/Absent: Costa Kokkinos, Karen McLaughlin, Cristina Witzke, Irene
Tsontakis-Bradley, Councilman Jim Dinizio and Councilman Bill Ruland,
Approval of Minutes of October 21, 2013
Anti-Bullying Initiative: Jessica Santiago, Social Worker of Southold High
School, presented initiative of Students Against Destruction Decisions (SADD)
clubs to identify students in their respective schools from other clubs and athletics
to attend a dinner forum to address bullying through promoting tolerance and
acceptance. The event is tentatively scheduled for evening in March at Founders
Landing. The Youth Bureau will support their efforts through financial contribution.
Southold Youth Bureau Social Media Recommendations: Adopted by the
Town Board.
America Recycles Day (Week) Initiative: Jacob Branker reported that he and
two students from Mattituck High School created a video that highlights the
importance of recycling, reducing and reusing that was aired on the "Morning
Show" in recognition of America Recycles Week. Phillip reported that Group for
the East End will work with schools to develop initiatives for Earth Day in April.
Review of Youth Advisory Council (YAC) Membership: Greenport and
Southold have added additional students, no additional students are needed.
Workshop on Electronic Cigarettes: Phillip reported that SC Prevention
Resource Center indicated that the SC Health Dept. no longer has funding to visit
communities to host workshops. Andrea has a contact that she will contact.
Intergenerational Programs/Laptops: Tabled.
Behavioral Health Services for Youth: Phillip reported that SC Prevention
Resource Center stated that the doctor no longer works for South Oaks Hospital
and the grant has terminated. He will work with Southampton Youth Bureau to
approach SC Youth Bureau to avail of additional resources.
CAST Initiatives: Sarah Benjamin discussed their new pre-school initiative
(Parent-Child Home Program) launched by CAST to promote early literacy and
school readiness.

Leaf Raking for Seniors YAC Community Service Activity: Scheduled for
Sunday, December 8th from 9 a.m. until noon, Phillip will present to YAC.
Internship Fair: Scheduled for Saturday, April 19th from 9 a.m. until noon at the
Recreation Center. Phillip reported that he will inform the Town's Economic
Development Committee who will partner with the Youth Bureau in sponsoring the
event. In addition, he stated that Martha Tuthill of Greenport High School
volunteered to work with him to solicit support of the business community.
Goals and Objectives 2014: As the New Year approaches, board should think of
goals and objectives to achieve next year (e.g. host Community Svc. Day in April,
etc.)
