HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/24/2013 F. `GOWN OF SOUTHOLD HOUSING ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES r x*.4 t MEETING #88 October 24, 2013 Present: John Vahey, Michael Herbert, Rona Smith, LeRoy Heyliger, Beth Motschenbacher, Dan Sarnowski and Phillip Beltz. Excused/Absent: Jeanne Kelley, Eric Dantes, Frederick Andrews and Councilman Chris Talbot. Meeting began at 5:35 p.m. Approval of Minutes: The minutes of October 09, 2013 were approved. Habitat for Humanity: Title clearance is encumbered by civil lien of $4500 due to non-payment of homeowner association fees. Phillip is working with SC Community Development office to see if the Town would be able to transfer funds towards payment. Dan shared a link in which local realtors are raising funds towards Habitat project. HAC will host a "volunteer drive" in the winter with Habitat to bring together residents and businesses that may wish to support the project. HAC Vacancy: One candidate was interviewed by Town Board (Councilmen Ruland and DiNizio) and the other candidate did not show. Phillip with speak with Councilmen to determine how they wish to proceed. SC Office for Aging Public Hearing: Phillip provided testimony for SC public hearing to promote funding for Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORC) that support "aging in place." Fall Housing Forum-Housing Options for Seniors: Wednesday, November 13th at 2 p.m. at Human Resource Center in Mattituck. Focus will be discussion of best practices in keeping seniors in the community, and specifically in their homes. Will offer an additional "vendor forum" in the spring that will showcase specific services that seniors can avail (no charge or fee for service.) Phillip is awaiting confirmation from "Hands on Huntington" (NORC.) Fred reported that the Geezer Project is just developing and would not be able to offer much information of their experience. Rona is in discussion with Beacon Hill model. Agreement to highlight local programs: Peconic Landing with their upcoming expansion and San Simeon by the Sound daycare program. A housing guide will not be necessary however Beth will develop cards to hand out that will solicit what topics seniors would like to have discussed in the spring. Suggestion to provide coffee and dessert. Cottages at Mattituck Vacancy Flyer: Everyone in favor of the flyer that Dan developed. This will be distributed when a vacancy arises.
