October 09, 2013
Present: Eric Dantes, Frederick Andrews, Rona Smith, LeRoy Heyliger, Beth Motschenbacher, Dan
Sarnowski and Phillip Beltz. Excused/Absent: Michael Herbert, Jeanne Kelley, John Vahey and
Councilman Chris Talbot. Meeting began at 5:35 p. m.
Approval of Minutes: The minutes of September 18, 2013 were approved.
CPF Tax Exclusion for First-Time Homebuyers: Phillip sent follow-up email to offices of
Senator LaValle and Assemblyman Thiele.
Habitat for Humanity: Dan reported that Habitat is still awaiting the title clearance.
Habitat and president of Greenway Homeowners Association do not believe that an
additional meeting is needed at this time.
Prospective Development of Apartments from RFP: Prospective developer still
awaiting consensus from family who owns land. He is hoping to pursue tax credits in fall
2014. Architect and attorney for Fishers Island apartments will develop preliminary design.
Accessory Apartment Recommendations to the Town Board: Pending.
Housinq Policies and Procedures: Phillip met with Town Board and they do not want to
limit waiting list to 12 months but allow households to remain as long as they qualify.
HAC Vacancy: Two individuals submitted resumes and will be interviewed by several
members of the Town Board.
Fall Housinq Forum-Housinq Options for Seniors: Wednesday, November 13~h at 2
p.m. at Human Resource Center in Mattituck. Focus will be discussion of concepts of best
practices in keeping seniors in the community, and specifically in their homes.
Consideration to offer an additional "vendor forum" in the spring that will showcase specific
services that seniors can avail (no charge or fee for service) as follow-up. Phillip will meet
with Human Services Director, Karen McLaughlin, to further discuss. Below is status of
topics/invitees for both forums:
Discussion of Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORC) and the Geezer
Project in Brooklyn-Fred will research for potential speaker. Huntington has NORC.
Beacon Hill Project-Rona will research potential speaker.
SC Bar Association: Elder Law
Family Service League: HOME Share program
North Fork Housing Alliance: Home Repair, Utility (HEAP) and Weatherization
programs
Southold Senior Services: Residential Repair program
Supervisor Russell: Southold Accessory Apartment Code
John Viteritti or Touro Law Project:Reverse Mortgages
Beth and Michael agreed to work on resource booklet with assistance from Phillip. Any
additional topics will be discussed and finalized at the next meeting.
Cottages at Mattituck Annual Certification: Town Attorney mailed three certified letters
to residents who did not respond to compliance request.
Outreach to Fire Depts. Etc: To engage households to submit applications for when
vacancies arise at the Cottages at Mattituck, Dan will draft letter. When vacancy occurs it
will be sent to NF Patch, Suffolk Times, etc. to foster interest.
Meetinq Ended 6:40 p.m. -Next Meetinq Date: Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 5:30
p.m. in the Town Hall meeting room to finalize planning of Housing Options forum. Note
there will no "meeting" in November as the forum will suffice.
