OFFICE OF THE SUPERVISOR
TOWN OF SOUTHOLD
Economic Development Committee (EDC) Meeting Minutes
September 25, 2013
Present: Rona Smith, Amy Maguire Burns, Linton Duell, John Stype, Ian Wile, Tony Cocheo,
Steve Latham, Councilman Bill Ruland and Phillip Beltz. Excused: Carolyn Fahey, Donielle
Cardinale and Supervisor Scott Russell. Meeting began at 2:05 p.m.
Support of East End Tourism Alliance (EFTA) Grant: As follow-up to "Taste North Fork"
September 17`h meeting, EDC discussed strategies to promote success of EFTA grant during
Veterans' Day weekend (beginning Friday, November 8`h and ending Sunday, November 10`h. It
is unclear how the Hampton Jitney will provide transportation, and what hamlet centers will
benefit from their service.
The most crucial factor in promoting the success of the grant is educating the business
community to know that the grant exists and fostering a discussion among businesses to
develop ideas to promote their businesses within their respective hamlet centers. EDC agreed
that the most effective way to get the word out would be to set up a meeting in conjunction with
the North Fork Promotion Council. Phillip will place one-quarter page ad in Suffolk Times to
invite the business community to a meeting on Monday, October 7`h at 6 p.m. in the Peconic
Lane Community Center. Meeting will inform businesses about the grant as well as offer venue
to brainstorm ideas.
The 30 second spot advertisement is very effective and will be featured on the advertisements.
It is also important to advise businesses that the promotion of Taste North Fork will run
throughout the year. In addition, to foster the success of the event, the EDC agreed to publish
a full-page ad listing all the events that Southold businesses develop during the Veteran's Day
weekend.
Next Meeting Date/Time: To be determined. The meeting ended at 3:05 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Phillip Beltz
