Storms like hurricanes Irene and Sandy as well as other storms have caused failure of the"wave break' structures installed just behind the pilings on the north facing and west facing pilings. These views are shown on figures 2 and 3, attached. Figure 1 is an aerial picture. We have consulted with Crowley Marine and attach their proposal for a long term solution to the ongoing problem. This added protection of this old stone and fill structure is necessary for its structural integrity and also to protect the boats in the marina from storm wave action. Major storms like hurricane Sandy and Irene have caused failure of the existing "wave break"structure which is installed behind the pilings on the west side of the wharf. The referenced 2020 letter also included photos of the site and the area to be modified. In the course of the 2020 site inspection, the Town representatives expressed support for the concept of installing additional vertical pilings along the west and north-facing areas of the wharf, but deferred to the NYS DEC for their determination before they would entertain a request for this simple modification. We have been working with DEC and have recently received a DEC Permit Modification to install the additional pilings. A copy of this Permit and the approved site plan drawing are attached to this letter. We now seek approval from the Trustees to proceed in accordance with the DEC Permit. Please advise what the next steps we should take with the Southold Trustees. Town guidance should be communicated with Brian McCaffrey( bmccaff@aol.com and 631-374-3611 ). Thank you.
