Box 1179 Southold, NY 1 1 97 1-0959 Dear Trustees: I own a home at 845 Rogers Road, in Beixedon Estates. It is the last house on the left side of Rogers Road, facing Southold Bay. On February 22, 2012 you issued a permit for me to replace astorm- damaged timber bulkhead with 150 ft of vinyl sheathing, 2 ft higher than the old bulkhead. The new sheathing and 2 ft saved our house when Hurricane Sandy hit. Unfortunately, the storm caused significant erosion of our community beach and the support of a large cement slab which protected the end of Rogers Road. The community proposes to replace the fractured slab with a new permeable barrier, part of which will be on my property, but more importantly it will protect the end of the road and absorb rain runoff, reducing further beach erosion. I respectfully request that the Board of Trustees grant our Association's request for permission to install this barrier, and to do so as soon as possible. We need your help before the next storm further damages our beach and road. Respectfully submitted, 120 Salisbury Avenue Garden City, N Y 11530 June S, 2013 (correspondence address) D ~C~IV~ Southold Town Trustees D Southold Town Nall JUN - 7 2013 Main Street Southold, N Y 11971 own Dear Sirs: 1 own a residence in the Village of Southold, at 900 Rogers Road. It is in the community known as the Bsixedon 8states Association. I am the last house on Rogers, before the Peconic Bay. At the road's end, there is a thick cement slab / structuro that guards the end of the street and prevents tidal surges from washing away or damaging Rogere's Road, which is constructed of sand /oil. Continuing and accelerating erosion has weakened and destroyed the Beixedon beach and Its' storm defenses. Nurrieane "bandy" decimated most of the beach in Troll of my property and undermined the beach and underpinnings that kept the cement slab at road's end in place, which, in tum, prevents the destruction of the end of Rogers Road. My driveway entrance is approximately even with the North end of the slab. If the slab is compromised and the road eroded, 1 will be prevented from accessing my land and home by automobile. Our Beixedon Community wishes to construct a replacement (permeable) barrier which will mitigate or prevent erosion and road destrectfon. 1 respectfully request that the Association's request for permission for this barNer be granted at the next Board meeting so as to allow the Association to do the necessary repairs and replacement before the next storm continues the damage. Ecological Science for a Changing World May 8, 2013 Town of Southold Town Hall Annex 54375 Main Road P.O. Box 1179 Southold, NY 11971-0959 Hurricane Sandy Emergency Application, Beixedon Association Rogers Road Rehab To Whom It Might Concern: Dru Associates, in our continuing role for Beixedon Estates Association, hereby submits a request for Hurricane Sandy Emergency authorization to repair a roadbed damaged in Sandy and subsequent erosion events in Southold Bay. The Association proposes to remove a concrete pad (18' x 20') at the terminus of Rogers Road because it has been undermined and is unsafe for pedestrian or vehiculaz access to the beach. The roadbed has been steadily washing out since Sandy and has reached an Emergency condition. The proposed work reduces the impervious coverage in this shoreline zone, and lays upland of the mean high water mark as agreed with BMHP, and as such is a net benefit to the adjacent azea. The knee wall is only to be two feet above grade for the purpose of containing the gravel substituted for the concrete roadbed. Prior to Sandy, the concrete pad was usually partially covered with beach sand, so that sand will be restored to pre- storm levels. Sincerely, ~o~raQd 2U. ~~cd ~ E C E~ V E Dr. R.W.
