Sage Blvd., Box 455, Southold, NY 11971 Phone (631) ~.774~$30 · Fax (631) 477-2996 June 1, 2013 To the $outbold Town Tru~t~es, 2013 Thls is a t~quest for p~rmission to Emergency Dredge our inlet. 24 hours before our window for dredging, with our existing l~rait, we found,'~h~t dartings ceased by the storm "Sandy" fi.om the Jetty erosion fo the eas~ of our inlet has caused the inlet to be very dangerous and passage uncertain, One of our customers hit a rock in tho inlet on Thursday May 30, 2013. This inlet is the passage way from the basin that is home to 138 slips and boats to Southold Bay. It also provides ace. esl for Southold Shores, their boats and the houses along the north edge of the basin. We have an existing permit approved by the Southold Trustees and also a permit approved by the DEC. The Dredgln~ in the spring h~ a window to dredge from May 15t~ to June 1~, This issue came to cur attention on May 30~ and we immediately cont~ted Latham Sand and Oravel to see if they could clear the inlet by 2uno l=, Due to time restraints and completion of' other work they wcr~ doin~ $ohn Hocker was unnble t~ get to us by June Iu. John Hocker hnz looked at the problem and informed us that the dredging can be done. with your po. faission, quickly and within one day. We am oslelng m have the dredge remove +.he small area offthe end of the Jetty that eroded reek into the inlet and a ~md ledge that was craned by the storm "Sandy". John Hocker sa/d that taking out two boxes of sand will dour the ohanrte[ gnough to, get by and then we can plan a full dredge to historical depth in the fall.
