HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/2013June 06, 2013 To: Town Board Fr: Phillip Beltz Re: MAY 2013 SUMMARY REPORT-SPECIAL PROJECTS COORDINATOR Housinq: · Facilitated Housing Advisory Commission (HAC) meeting and disseminated minutes. · Developed Excel database of current applications requesting assistance for affordable housing with total of 50 households, most with insufficient incomes. · On behalf of HAC, drafted letter to USDA regarding their reclassification of "rural" designation eliminating affordable housing programs for residents. Youth Bureau: · Facilitated Youth Bureau Board meeting and disseminated minutes. · Facilitated Youth Advisory Council meeting. · Attended Suffolk County Youth Bureau Directors' meeting and disseminated minutes. · Attended North Fork School Business Advisory Board meeting. · Attended East End Gang Awareness"Building Community" conference planning meeting. · Attended Long Island Regional Youth Bureau board meeting. · Prepared Administrative Narrative for Office of Children and Family Services for 2013 Youth Bureau application. · Attended Southampton Youth Bureau's presentation of survey findings of Teen Assessment Project. Comprehensive Plan: · Attended one team meeting to discuss Emergency Preparedness Planning chapter. draft outline for forthcoming Economic Development: · Prepared agenda and minutes of May 20th Economic Development Committee (EDC) meeting. · Subcommittee meeting of EDC to prepare for June 20th Town of Southold Business Forum to provide resources and information for local businesses. · With Supervisor and Business Liaison Amy Burns, facilitated "Economic Development Welcoming Committee" meeting with potential new business venture. · Prepared administrative narrative and necessary paperwork for participation in Suffolk County Summer Works program to offer employment for youth residing in households receiving public assistance. Meeting with Community Action in Southold Town (CAST) director, Sarah Benjamin, to identify income eligible youth for participation in program. Executive Safety: · Meeting with Police Chief to discuss PD response to panic buttons. Developed policy and discussion with the Town Board for utilization of network-based panic buttons. Disseminated to Department Heads. · Meeting with Councilman Ruland and Lloyd Reisenberg to review additional requests for panic buttons. In addition, began review of existing alarm systems throughout Town, their capabilities and costs to further additional recommendations. Other: · Coordinated and scheduled Town Board hamlet-based community meetings throughout the summer. · Follow-up from Community Service Forum: Meeting with Mary Eisenstein to discuss "Community of Neighbors Mediation Program" to avert cases from being heard in Justice Court. In addition, several inquiries from residents (telephone, email and in-person) who missed forum requesting names of organizations seeking volunteers. · On behalf of Supervisor, attended Suffolk County Supervisors meeting. · Attended Southold Elementary School community garden initiative.
