TOWN OF SOUTHOLD
Economic Development Committee (EDC) Meeting Minutes
May 20,2013
Present: lan Wile, John Stype, Donielle Cardinale, Steve Latham and Phillip Beltz.
Excused: Rona Smith, Amy Maguire Burns, Linton Duell, Tony Cocheo, Councilman
Bill Ruland and Supervisor Scott Russell. Special Guests: Bryan Deluca and Janine
Negron of East End Tourism Alliance. Meeting began at 9:10 a.m. at the Hyatt Place in
Riverhead.
Discussion of East End Tourism Alliance Grant: The East End Tourism Alliance
(EETA) was awarded a grant in the amount of $340,000 from the NYS Long Island
Regional Economic Council to promote tourism on the East End in "shoulder seasons"
that will dovetail with "Taste New York" campaign. The bulk of funding will target
advertising in NYC metropolitan area and possibly New England with a component to
offer transportation. The South Fork will launch their marketing efforts after Labor Day
into October and the North Fork will market the region for late November and early
December to tie in with existing events such as Greenport's "Shellabration." EETA
worked with Stony Brook University to develop their website and most of their funding
came primarily from an expired grant from Governor Mario Cuomo that was awarded
through a suggestion of the East End Supervisors and Village Mayors. EETA seeks
public and private collaborations and will need additional funding to administer the
grant.
