Glazed openings in buildings located in Wind Borne Debris Regions shall be protected from windborne debds. Glazed opening protection for windborne debris shall meet the requirements of the Large Missile Test of an approved impact resisting standard or ASTM E 1996 and ASTM E 1886 referenced therein. Exception: Factory supplied wood structural panels with a minimum of 7/16 inch thickness and a maximum span of 8 feet shall be permitted for opening protection in one- and two-story buildings. Panels shall be pre-cut so that they can be attached to the framing surrounding the opening containing the product with the glazed opening. Panels shall be secured with the attachment hardware provided. Attachments shall be designed (by others) to resist the component and cladding loads determined in accordance with either Table R301.2(2) or Section 1906.6.5 of the International Building Code. Attachment in accordance with Table R301.2.1.2 is permitted for buildings with a mean roof height of 33 feet or less where wind speeds do not exceed 130 miles per hour. 4. Primary and secondary roof drainage systems shall be designed locally by others to convey all rainwater from the roof areas. The primary roof drainage system shall be designed in accordance with the provisions of the code of the local jurisdiction. The flow capacity of the secondary (over[Iow) drains or scuppers shall not be less than that of the primary drains or scuppers. 5. This building IS NOT designed for the application of brick or stone veneer. SHEARWALL NOTES: 1. Panels shall not be less than 4' X 8', except at boundaries and changes in framing. Where panels are applied to both faces of a wall and nail spacing is less than 6" c.c. on either side, panel joints shall be offset to fall on different framing members, or framing shall be 3" nominal or thicker or two 2" nominal framing members fastened together in accordance with Section 2306.1 to transfer the design shear value between framing members. Lead holes for lag screws loaded laterally or in withdrawal shall be bored as follows to avoid splitting of the wood members dudng connection fabrication: (a) The clearance hole for the shank shall have the same diameter as the shank, and the same depth of penetration as the length of unthreaded shank. (b) The lead hole for the threaded portion shall have a diameter equal to 65% to 85% of the shank diameter in wood with G>0.6; 60% to 75% in wood with 0.5<G<0.6; and 40% to 70% in wood with G-<0.5 and a length equal to at least the length of the threaded portion. The larger percentile in each range shall apply to lag screws of greater diameters. 2. The threaded portion of the lag screw shall be inserted in its lead hole by turning with a wrench, not by driving with a hammer. 3. Minimum penetration (not including the length of the tapered tip) of the lag screw into the main member for single shear connections or the side members for double shear connection shall be four times the diameter, pmin = 4D. 4.
