ZBA Guidelines to Open Meetings Law and Ethical lssues
The Board of Appeals unanimously amended and re-adopted the ZBA Guidelines to Open
Meetings Law and Ethical Issues at our Special Meeting on February 28, 2013. To ensure the
regular annual review of this document, as is the case with our Code of Conduct and
Procedural Guidelines, the Board added Section 6 Revie~ and Amendments as follows:
4/k,r these Guidelines to Open Meetings Law and Ethical Issues are adopted by
the ZBA, the ZB/t shall have the authority to modi35; or amend portions hereof by
resolution approved by the mqfority of the members.
These Guidelines to Open Meetings Law and Ethical Issues vvilI be reviewed
annually at the first ZBA meeting in January where possible, but no later than
February of each );ear.
In addition, an Introduction was added as follows:
The.fbi~owing Guidelines to Open Meetings Law and Ethical Issues is voluntarily
adopted by the Soulhold lbwn Zoning Board qf Appeals, as permitted by lbwn Code
3~280- ] 48. 11 is intended to SupDlement and fitrther clar!fy the re6ponsibilities and
ethical standards proscribed fbr Zoning Board~' by the Town pf Southold and New
York State. The purpose is' to set an expected level of)~ersonal and prof~ssiona]
behavior to ensure that aH ZBA members exercise the highest degree of'honesty,
dedcation, confidentiality and professionalism. These Guidelines apply to ail
members. Implementation of this policy is the rexponsibilily of'each individual
member as overseen by the Chair of'the Board. Failure by any Board member to
adhere to these Guidelines to Open Meetings Law and Ethical issues may result in
cause fbr removal by the 7bwn Board, after a public hearing as required by New York
Stat~ Town [,aw 3g267.
Financial/Budget/Personnel Issues: A position on the Board of Appeals is now
open as a result of Member Dinizio's appointment to the Town Board. An ad in the
Suffolk Times seeking applicants will be published in the March 14, 2013 edition.
