Economic Development Committee Meeting Minutes
February 22, 2013
Present: John Stype, Rona Smith, Amy Maguire Burns, Carolyn Fahey,
Councilman Bill Ruland and Phillip Beltz. Excused/Absent: Donielle
Cardinale, lan Wile, Tony Cocheo, Linton Duell, Steve Latham and
Supervisor Scott Russell
"How to Business Guide": Kudos to Amy for her efforts in producing a
brochure. Hard copies will be made available to EDC and it will appear on
the website.
Suffolk Times February 21st Business Edition: All agreed that
story/advertisement looked great and was a good use of funding.
Business Liaison Position: Phillip reported that John Stype informed the
Supervisor that with his new position as Suffolk County 1st District
legislative aid he will remain with the EDC but will need to resign as
business liaison. Phillip will run an advertisement.
Website Content: Phillip and Amy met to revise website content and
changes were posted to the website.
Schedule Meeting with Andrea Lohneiss New York State Regional
Economic Council: Rona shared an idea of seeking funding for
commercial kitchen/training facilities to tie in with local food movement.
Carolyn built upon idea suggesting partnership with other entities (i.e. NF
Promotion Council, Chambers of Commerce, East End Tourism) that could
highlight "food and wine tourism" of region. Phillip asked Carolyn if "shop
local campaign" would quality for funding-she stated American Express
sponsors small business Saturday campaigns that would achieve same
objective.
Youth Job Fair Spring: An advertisement appeared in the Suffolk Times
last week and no one has contacted Phillip about attending the April 20th
event. Carolyn spoke with SC Dept. of Labor who will disseminate
information to Southold employers.
Second Annual Small Business Summit: Flyer distributed for March 20th
summit in Riverhead.
2013 Goals and Objectives: Suggestion to set up quarterly meetings with
local chambers, NF Promotion, etc. to share 2013 EDC goals and
objectives and work together to develop strategies to bring about
accomplishments. Meeting to be set for week of March 25th at Peconic
Lane Community Center from 6 until 8 p.m.
Set Next Meeting Date/Time: To be determined. Note: Attendees of
meeting agreed to meet on Friday, March 8th at 9:00 a.m. to further discuss
planning of meeting with Chambers, etc. Meeting ended at 3:05 p.m.
