HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/28/2013Southold Transportation Commission Southold Town Hall January 28, 2013 Meeting Called to Order 10:08 AM by Chairman Neb Brashich. Members Present: Frank Field, Town Engineer Jamie Richter, Chief Martin Flatley, Margaret Brown, Councilman Chris Talbot, Highway Superintendent Pete Harris, Planning Director Heather Lanza, Jim Baker and Tom Fox. Minutes of December 27, 20'12 After an email observation by Heather Lanza concerning the date for the next meeting (January 28, 2013) and the adjournment time (10:55 AM), a motion to approve the minutes was made, seconded and carried. East End Transportation Council Neb reported that there was no January meeting and that the next meeting is scheduled for February 13, 2013. Supervisor's Requests None. Planning Board Requests Town Comprehensive Plan Issuance of the Transportation Chapter has been delayed for an additional four months. NYSDOT It was reported that Route 25 from CR 58, Riverhead to Tuckers Lane, Southold is scheduled for resurfacing, commencing in Spring 2014. A discussion ensued concerning a suggested inventory and review of all traffic control signage and crosswalks over the length of that project and with respect to the intersection of Route 25 and Town roads. Pete Harris suggested that dead trees on the NYS right of way on Route 25 be removed and replaced. Current Transportation Issues Southold/Greenport Bus Shelters Neb reported that he has had two phone conversations with the person in charge at SCDPW concerning the shelters and that the Village of Greenport has also been in contact with SCDPW. Further action is awaited. In that regard, SCDPW has provided an aerial photo of the Feather Hill - Southold Library locale, which depicts the proposed relocation of the current bus stop and the projected placement of the shelter to just east of the eastern curb cut entrance to Feather Hill. After a vigorous discussion, the Commission acquiesces with SCDPW's proposal. Councilman Talbot reported that he will clarify with the Mattituck Lions Club as to whether the placement of its proposed bus shelter will be in Mattituck or in Cutchogue and he will also seek clarification concerning the amount of its prospective donation to be made in support of that project. Orientation / Interpretive Si.qna.qe Project After Neb's request for a situation report, the RBA Group advised that it expected a final review of contact documents and graphics by next week. Thereafter, a 5-week advertisement period for the solicitation of contractor bids will be required before the review of those bids. RBA also reports that the total estimated cost of manufacturing and installing three signs and four kiosks is estimated to be about $120,000, including the estimated installation cost of the Greenport kiosk of about $15,000. However, if there is insufficient funding to complete the entire project as above, the four kiosks would receive priority over the three signs. Old Business None. New Business New Suffolk Street Li.qhts Jim Baker reported that newly-placed LED street lights in areas of New Suffolk have been favorably received. NYSERDA Heather Lanza reported that the NYS Energy Research and Development Authority will provide funding for "smart green" investments for mixed cooperative alternative fueling stations on the East End. Those funds would be available for "first responders", schools and transportation services such as SCT and HJ. Heather also advised that NYS will conduct a "Cleaner Greener Communities" initiative at Molloy College in Rockville Centre.
