Excused: Linton Duell and Steve Latham. Aisc present: Gianna ¥olpe of the Suffolk Times. Meeting began at 2:00 p.m. "How to Business Guide": John reported that he met with Leslie Weisman of ZBA, Heather Lanza of Planning, Amy and Phillip to initiate discussion of developing the guide. Amy further developed the concept to a "simple" guide/brochure version that is designed to be informative but also direct the public to the EDC website as that can be maintained and kept current. Comments were very positive and everyone is to review Amy's copy and provide her with comments no later than January 31 st (if you need a copy contact her.) Suffolk Times Business Guide Advertisement: Phillip requested that EDC consider placing an ad in the February 21st edition that will highlight EDC as a resource to the business community. All were in agreement to take a half-page ad for $525 from the EDC's $3,000 annual budget. John, Amy and lan will help Phillip develop copy/visuals. Website Content: Phillip discussed importance of keeping website current and "fresh." lan will provide a brief update of business survey findings with visuals for the site. The "Business Guide" will also be added to the website along with a solicitation for viewers to provide their email addresses. Suggestion to include a profile of local businesses although this could be perceived as "advertising" and it would be difficult to establish criteria for selecting which business to profile, lan agreed to assist Phillip in refining the website through the year. Suggestion for EDC to track the number of viewers that visit its website. Schedule Meeting with New York State Regional Economic Council: Due to recent funding awards within Long Island, Phillip and John suggested solicited funding from the Council, however, Carolyn suggested that EDC meet with their representative (Andrea Lohneiss) after EDC has targeted a specific idea. Phillip suggested "promoting tourism" through technology with applications for Smartphones. Carolyn noted that EDC should think of partnerships with other entities (e.g. NF Promotion Council, etc.) This will be further discussed and EDC should bring funding suggestions to the next meeting. Youth Job Fair in the Spring: The Economic Chapter of the Comprehensive Plan suggests holding a Job Fair for youth. The Youth Bureau board and several members of the EDC (John, Linton, Amy and Phillip) will work together to host a job fair in the Spring at the Recreation Center. Letters will be sent to Chambers of Commerce, businesses such as restaurants, etc. to solicit employers with jobs for youth. 2013 Goals and Objectives: Due to lack of time this item was tabled until the next meeting and time will be allocated for members to meet to discuss how to achieve goals and objectives for the year. In addition, EDC may consider meeting at another day/time to further discuss. Set Next Meeting Date/Time: All are in favor of meeting on Friday afternoons. The next scheduled meeting is Friday, February 22nd at 2:00 p.m. in the Annex board room. Meeting ended at 3:35 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Phillip Beltz
