Re: Town of Southhold Parking Ticket S10857
Dear Sir/Madam:
This past Saturday, June 28`h, I traveled quite a distance to take the Cross Sound Ferry to the
Foxwoods Resort Casino with my father and elderly aunt who resides in East Marion. When we
arrived to take the Sea Jet, the parking attendant told us the lot was full and directed us to park
on the street opposite the ferry terminal, as all other arriving passengers for the Sea Jet were
directed. Upon our return that evening we were surprised to find that our car, along with all of
the other cars parked on the street, as directed by the parking attendant, had been ticketed (copy
attached)for parking in a no stopping zone and fined$75.00.
It is unconscionable that all of the passengers directed to park on the street by the ferry
operator's agents (due to inadequate parking facilities) should be ticketed under these
circumstances, and it would be even more untenable for the Town of Southhold, which clearly
generates revenue from the tickets issued, to claim ignorance of this deceptive practice which, as
evidenced by my trip to the terminal the next day, appears to be a daily occurrence.
Presumably, many of the passengers are from out of town making the dispute of the ticket
inconvenient, if not prohibitive. Therefore, while I am paying the ticket under protest, on behalf
of the innocent patrons who are invited to utilize the ferry facilities to get to the casinos, I want
to make all others involved (and who may be profiting) expressly aware of this deceptive
practice and urge them to do something about it.
By copy of this letter, I am alerting the Board of Directors of Southhold, Newsday, the Attorneys
General of New York and Connecticut, the Cross Sound Ferry Operator, the Foxwoods Casino,
and the Chief of Police of Suffolk to this practice and requesting that they provide me with any
information about this practice and proposed remedial action.
Thank you.
Sincerel os,
Christ
