Sincerely, Licensed Master Electrician Suffolk County Master Licensed Number March 27, 2010 ' h 2r-I Southold Town Hall 53095 Main Road. PO Box 1179 Southold, New York 11971 Reference: Hiring of Electrical Inspector Scott A. Russell: Supervisor Members of the Council, I am a licensed Suffolk County Electrical Contractor. I am writing this letter to inform the Town of Southold that our monthly Suffolk County Electrical Contractors Association (SCECA) meeting was held on March 18, 2010 and the majority is firmly opposed to the Town hiring an Electrical Inspector. We firmly believe this is not in the best interest of the people in the Town of Southold and are vehemently against such a ruling by the board members of the Town. It was brought to our attention that the electricians in Suffolk County were supportive and in favor of the Town hiring a Electrical Inspector; thus generating such a letter to inform the members that we do not support such a decision by the board and are against this decision, a decision that contradicts the majority vote held during the March 18, 2010 SCECA meeting. We the majority are against such a ruling and believe this will not only hurt the people of Southold but also the small businesses that make up the electricians of Suffolk County. As electricians we consider out sourcing electrical inspections as one of the many services that help keep our businesses a float and fervently oppose the government stepping in to make such rulings and decisions for our group. It is not true that our group prefer a town employee doing electrical inspections; we as a group support such inspections being done by the companies that are active participants of the IAEI and are familiar and educated with the most up to date codes promulgated by the State of New York. These companies are currently licensed within Suffolk Consumer Affairs and at liberty to operate their businesses. We, as a group, do not have time to go to the Town to file more paperwork, as our time is valuable (like yours). We feel there is enough 'red tape' with the other two municipalities doing there own electrical inspections to operate a successful business. We urge you not to make it more difficult on our industry. We respectfully request that you reconsider such a monumental decision that will affect our small businesses in Suffolk County.
