Subject: Fireworks Display at upcoming Strawberry Festival ScuEl*told Turn rl-ack
Members of the Board,
It has come to my attention that the fireworks display for this upcoming event will be
launched from the parking lot of the former Porto Bello restaurant located at the juncture
of route 48 & Sound Ave. I object strongly to this choice and hope you will direct them
to either return to the site they've always used(just south of the intersection where the
town has bought green space) or to the festival grounds itself.
My house is the one immediately SE of the restaurant site with only a former LILCO
transformer station between. My house is less than 300', my chicken coop approximately
250' and my garage is also approximately 250' from the site. This is way too close for
comfort both for the noise&the danger of a bad launch. Additionally, one of my dogs is
absolutely terrified of fireworks and I will have a clutch of just hatched chicks. I have not
complained in the past because of the greater public good(it is for a good cause and my
fellow citizens deserve a little fun)and we've been able to deal with it from its former
launch site. This is not the case if they are allowed to launch from the new planned site at
the former Porto Bello restaurant and I think asking too much of a sacrifice from us.
Lastly I think it quite callous of the organizers not to even think to ask the surrounding
neighbors(other than my neighbor, Paul Grippa, located immediately north of me)their
opinions or permission.
Please direct the Lion's Club & all future organizers that fireworks are to be launched
either from the property they've always used, from the festival grounds itself or not at all.
