HomeMy WebLinkAboutGilroy, Marilyn RECEIVED JUN 2 5 2012 Marlene Civic Association Southold Town Clerk M Box 1082 Mattituck NY 11952 June 20, 2011 Southold Town Board PO Box 1179 Southold,NY 11973 To Whom It May Concern: The Marlene Civic Association (MLCA) is requesting that the Southold Town Board consider the installation of two stop signs on Peconic Bay Boulevard at the intersection of Marlene Lane on both the eastbound and westbound sides. This request from the MLCA, which includes approximately 50 households, was recently discussed, voted on and unanimously approved at its June 1 I"'meeting. Marlene Lane residents own deeded beach rights to a private section of beach just west of the Mattituck town beach. Most residents (which include many children)who use this beach usually access it by foot and cross Peconic Bay Boulevard to a private access walkway at this intersection. Cars traveling both east and west on Peconic Bay Boulevard often do so at dangerous speeds and do not slow down for pedestrians at this crosswalk. In recent years there have been several instances that could be classified as "close calls" concerning cars and pedestrians. A stop sign in either direction would not only force cars to slow down but also force them to make a full stop. We also believe that a forced slow down at this intersection would also create a safer situation at Veteran's Park at the Mattituck beach. We do realize that most requests of this nature usually use past accident history and we are not aware of any of these numbers. We do not, however, want to create a new history of an adult or child being injured or killed at this intersection. Should anyone need to discuss this request they can contact either me or any of the MLCA officers. We thank you for your time and hope that you act favorably for this request as soon as possible.
