Youth Advisory Council (YAC) Report: Phillip reported that YAC will meet at
the Human Resource Center on Saturday, December 15th to bake cookies and
make holiday cards for residents of San Simeon by the Sound. Elaine White
volunteered to help.
Town of Southold Youth Survey for Community Activities: Crissy provided a
preliminary report of survey results. Approximately 40 surveys were returned, it
would be ideal to have at least 50 from each school (most were from Southold
thanks to efforts of Zach Ellis.) A few suggestions were offered to further solicit
responses: have school liaisons distribute at respective schools, provide survey
with candy bars, download onto an iPad for students to take it.
Environmental Initiative: Costa contacted his former science teacher, Jim
Baglivi of Southold High School, to inform him of the previous meeting with school
superintendents and upcoming meeting in January.
Shared Parks, Fields and Recreational Facilities: Jeff reported that the
meeting with schools to coordinate the use of fields and facilities to maximize
recreational opportunities appeared productive.
Resource Directory: Irene forwarded a draft of the 2013 Resource Directory that
members of the board should review and email her any comments, edits, etc.
Crissy and Jeff suggested adding a list of Youth Bureau accomplishments (Phillip
will provide.) The target date for printing is mid-January. Jeff volunteered to seek
donors to underwrite the cost of printing the directory with a suggestion to print
many copies of directories- place at the kiosks for North Fork Promotion Council.
Goals and Objectives 2013: Below are tentative suggestions of potential goals,
will be further discussed and finalized at the January meeting. · Print and disseminate Resource Directory
· Work with Chambers of Commerce and Economic Development
Committee to host Youth Job/Internship Fair in spring
· Sponsor Community Service Day in April
· Work with schools to develop environmental initiatives (recycling)
· Promote shared fields to maximize recreational opportunities for youth and
adults
· Develop Youth Court
· Pilot afterschool program
