HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/26/2012Southold Transportation Commission Southold Town Hall November 26, 2012 Present: Neboysha Brashich, Margaret Brown, Frank Field, Jamie Richter, Brian Cummings, Planning Department Approval of August 20, 2012 Meeting Minutes: On a motion by Margaret Brown, seconded by Frank Field, the Minutes of the August 20 meeting were approved. There were no meetings in September and October. EETC Update: Margaret attended the meeting representing 5TRT and reported that Geoff Lynch, President of Hampton Jitney and operator of the Sag Harbor-Greenport "Peconic Jitney" water taxi gave a detailed report of the summer service. While the ridership was good, a larger participation will be needed for the operation to break even, and additional boats with better fuel efficiency will also be needed. As it was, about 15,000 passengers used the service, all recreational and tourism related. There were no work related commuters. The service was well received in both Greenport and Sag Harbor, and was popular with the riders. For future success, there needs to be private/public sector support. Other EETC agenda included: The SCT Sunday and Holiday bus service ran through October 7th this year; The LIRR "scoot train" equipment purchase and service planning is underway. The proposal now is for 3 two-car units but no decisions have been made for placement or actual vehicle models. Supervisor's Requests: 1. Reducing "No Parking" signage at Mill Lane After considerable discussion, Jamie suggested that the signs be removed from Soundview Ave south to Rte. 48, leaving the others in place, but it was ultimately decided to leave the decision to the Town Board. 2. Stop Sign Request - Main Bayview Road & Jacobs Lane Neb will ask Pete and Chief Flatley for an accident report of the intersection. In the mean time, the commission suggests possibly adding caution signs such as "Dangerous Intersection" to the area. 3. Stop Sign Request - Baywater Avenue & Main Bayview Road Neb will refer to Pete. Jamie would support a "Stop" sign there. 4. East Marion Crosswalk Request A recently blind person has requested a designated crosswalk at Gillette Drive and Rt.25 in East Marion. Neb will write a memo to the DOT to find out it there could be a special crossing installed. NYDOT Advisory Design Phase: The DOT will be resurfacing the road from Tuckers Lane to Chapel Lane beginning in the Fall of 2013. Planning Board Requests: We should receive the Transportation Chapter of the Comprehensive Plan by our next meeting and will then have 2 or 3 meetings to discuss and revise it. Current Transportation Issues Updates: Southold/Greenport Bus Shelters Neb talked to the DPW person in charge of bus shelters and was told funding is in place. Work should start in the spring to install 2 shelters. Orientation/Interpretive Signage Project - RBA- Phase II - Neb has received the proofs of the 3 signs and four of the 3-sided kiosk signs. He will show them to us when he has all of them. The project will then go into RFP mode and Steve Normandin will publish it in trade papers. Jamie advised that a Town Board Resolution is necessary in case money needs to be spent for this advertising. $90,000 is available for signage, but we may need to prioritize which signs to do if the estimates come in too high. Neb will also ask to hold an additional $20,000 in reserve left from the old Greenport Moore's Woods project. He will check with John Cushman to see that that fund is sequestered. Old Business: None New Business: None Public Comments: None The next meeting is scheduled for 10 AM, Monday, December 17, 2012. Respectfully submitted, Margaret H. Brown
