Box 1179 Southold, New York 11971 Dear Mr. Verity: As requested, I made a visit to the 2025 Sigsbee Road residence in MatlJtuck, New York on September 18, 2012 to evaluate the existing roof struc~re where the new solar panels are proposed. Based on the specifications the panels and the rack mounting system will produce a gravity load of appmximak~ 2.8 pounds per squa,-e foot. Based on this load it is my professional opinion based on my familiarity with the building that the existing roof will be able to supfloft the weight of the solar panel system as well as the Code presc~bed 20 pounds per square foot snow load. If you have any questions please call me at 298-1986. Yours truly, SEP 2 1 2012 BLDG. DEPi. TOWN OF SOUIHOLD Town Hall Annex 54375 Main Road P.O. The Solar Photovoltaic System to be installed consists of an Array of 15 AC Modules. Each AC module consists of a Canadian Solar CS6P-230P 230 watt solar panel coupled with an UL listed Enphase M215 Micro-inverter. Each Enphase M215 Micro-inverter is connected to a factory made AC Trunk Cable consisting of 12-3 with ground outdoor rated cable. The connection is via a waterproof connector that can only be disconnected with an Enphase disconnect tool. The AC Trunk Cable is then routed through the gable and connects in a junction box to 12-3 NM Romex wire that is routed from the junction box to the main electrical panel. The wire is supported by cable staples every 3 feet along the rafters when running parallel and via %" holes more than 1.5" from edge of rafters when running perpendicular to the rafters. The 12-3 NM Romex terminates in the main electrical panel via a 20 Amp 2 pole circuit breaker (240 AC), whereas the neutral and ground terminate in the grounding buss bar. The system is further grounded by a continuous bare ~ conductor which connects to each of the modules and rack and then connects to a #6 shielded conductor which is routed to the main electrical panel and the terminates in the grounding buss bar. As needed irreversible cdmps will be used for any connection with the ~6 conductor. The total DC Rating of the system is 3.45 kW. With a derating factor of .858 as calculated by PVWatts results in an AC Rating of 2.96 kW with a yeady production of 4031 kWh. Please see attached specifications for. 1) Canadian Solar CS6P-230P Solar Panel, 2) Enphase M215 Micro-inverter, and 3) Enphase Engage AC Trunk Cable. 2) Electrical Calculations for conductor ampacity: Each NC Micro-inverter generates a nominal 0.8958A. For 15 micro-inverters this is a total of 13.43A. NEC (Article 210.19, FPN 4), recommends that branch circuit conductors be sized for a maximum of 3% VRise. VRise in this circuit is a sum of the Enphase Engage Cable, the AC Branch Circuit to the dedicated circuit breaker, the connection at the AC junction box and the circuit breaker at the main load center. The VRise per the factory Enphase Engage Cable for 15 microinverters in a 1 .Om portrait cable run is 1.52 volts or 0.63%. VRise for the AC branch circuit: VRise = (amps/inverter * # of inverters) * (resistance / foot) * (2 Way Wire Length). Using 12-3 solid, and NEC chapter 9 table 8, the resistance of the conductor is .00201 ohm#cot. The wire length is 73 feet. Therefore, VRise = (0.8958A * 15) * (.00201) * (2 * 73) = 3.94 volts. VRise is % is 3.94 volts / 240 volts = 1.643%. The combined VRise % = 0.63% + 1.643% = 2.273%. This leaves 0.727%. The OCPD and connection is the AC junction box would be negligible and far less than 0.727%, which keeps the VRise within NEC requirements. You may enter values within the ranges shown in the table. Values outside the ranges are reset to to the default values by the derate calculator. The new overall DC to AC derate factor may be hand entered, or copied and pasted, into the "DC to AC Derate Factor" field on the PV Systems Specifications section of the PVWATTS input form.
