King President, Board of Trustees JFK~amn qOR ]~I~LAS'I LNIP September 17, 2012 President Jim King & Members of the Southold Town Trustees Town Hall Annex Building 54375 Route 25 P.O. Box 1179 Southold, NY 11971 8EP Dear President King and Southold Town Trustees, Group for the East End in collaboration with members of the Harbor Lights Association are seeking permission to plant native beach grass and vegetation on a recent dredge spoil (15' x 50') site on the Harbor Lights Community Park beach. All plantings will be native to the Long Island area including: beach grass, marsh elder, groundsel, bayberry, and goldenrod. In reviewing the Town Code Section, Chapter 275-4; Exceptions, it is my understanding that a permit is not required for the proposed re-vegetation of this site. "Proactive restoration or enhancement projects conducted in cooperation with the Trustees, including, but not limited to, salt marsh restoration, eelgrass plantings or other vegetative enhancement work." Please, let me know as soon as possible whether this assumption is accurate, as preliminary planting dates have been set for October 20th or November 3rd, I apologize for the short notice. Please let me know if you have any questions. I can be reached at (631) 765-6450 ext. 219 or at mweiss~eastendenvironn3.~n~,org. Thank you for your attention to this matter. tVl~. s/~y'~e i s s ~'~ Environmental Educator
