LAND PRESERVATION COMMI'FI'£E
TOWN OF SOUTHOLD
LAND PRESERVATION COMMITTEE MEETING APR $ .',
MONDAY, MARCH 27, 2000 AT 7:30 P.M.
MINUTES
Present were:
Dick Ryan, Joe Krukowski, Noreen McKenna, Fred Lee,
Reed Jarvis, Jim Pim, Ray Huntington, Brian Murphy,
Melissa Spiro and Marian Sumner.
John Tuthill property - Marian stated that there is a set-off application
in now to remove a piece from the scenic easement. This easement would
be for 10 years. The penalty would be 3 times the back taxes from the
time of signing. It also would give first right of development right sale
to the Town. It was suggested that it would be better to have first right
on the purchase of the property or development right sale. Mary Wilson
is handling this.
Caracciolo application - he has accepted the Town's offer. The Town
will pay for the survey. The public hearing is scheduled for tomorrow
night, March 28th.
Cullinane application - Marian Sumner spoke with Ms. Cullinane today.
She is awaiting the contract from the Youngs. The Town will pay for the
survey on this property also.
Goerler property - we have to find out from the County if they are inter-
ested in a partnership on this property. Melissa Spiro will contact
Mr. Burke of the County Real Estate Department.
We haven't seen the appraisals on the property in Mattituck yet. Dick
is meeting on Thursday with some colleagues from the DEC to discuss
with them a waterway access open space park on Mattituck Creek. They
-2-
will also discuss the LIPA property.
It appears there is some interest in the development of the land around
Custer Institute. Dick will ask Supervisor Cochran to contact the owner
again.
Wells gift- the contract is ~n the hands of the Town Attorney. The deed
has been signed.
Levin open space property - it is located across the road from the Soundview.
It is still in negotiations and is moving along.
Informational brochure - Ray Huntington has been working with Marian
Sumner and Valerie Scopaz. The Committee felt simplicity should be
stressed. Maureen McKenna gave her comments on some word changes
and felt the picture on brochure should be more agricultural looking.
Jim Pim read from his wife's simplifed version of the introduction, which
the Committee liked. He will ask her to look at the rest of the brochure
and try to simplify it. Anott~er refinement st~ould be made and it should
be finalized by the next meeting.
Ray said that John Sepenoski has produced an XL spread sheet. He can
also produce a map that can show the different soil types.
At 9:15 the Committee went into executive session to discuss the Goerler
and Cullinane appraisals.
With no further business to be discussed, the meeting was adjourned at
9:45 p.m.
