LAND PRESERVATION COMMITTEE MEETING JUIt2 6
MONDAY, JUNE 19, 2000
Sou MkITo n
MINUTES
Present were: Dick Ryan, Ray Huntington, Jim Pim, Reed Jarvis, Melissa
Spiro and Marian Sumner.
Supervisor Cochran asked Dick Ryan to look at the Midgley property, which
is adjacent to the road end and ramp at Haywaters Road. He is ready to
sell the property for $35,000. The Committee felt it would be okay if he
gifted it to the Town. The road area is so constricted here that there is
no place to put cars and trailers. He is inclined to sell it to the Town
rather than gift it.
Property across from Mattituck High School - Pimlico is trying to expand
his building. The back of this property could be of use. Perhaps the Town
could have an easement.
Harold Watts - sent in reply post card that was sent with brochure. Dick
said he had looked at two other lots he had offered a few years ago, which
the First Baptist Church of Cutchogue has purchased. Dick will contact him.
There are two wooded lots that the Committee thought we should contact the
owners of 101-2-8.1 and 101-2-6 and see if they are interested in selling it
for open space.
Suttermeister/Neuer application - this property is on the market for $425,000.
They would be interested in doing a bargain sale. Dick asked Marian Sumner
if she could have someone come and talk to the Committee.
Agricultural Protection Strategy - the mailing was done.
Outstanding Contracts -
Schreiber - his architect had a good meeting with the building inspector
according to Marian.
-2-
Cullinane - Marian has not heard back from her.
Goerler - he wants to close on the deal soon. They will be meeting with
the County, the Town Attorney and Melissa Sprio.
Kowalski/Custer - contract is not signed yet.
Levin - Basically a done deal - partnership with the County.
Ernst - Tim Caufield is speaking with him.
Other Business:
Supervisor Cochran ran into Senator LaValle at Peconic Landing. He said
they have $500,000 for the Town from the State Environmental Bond Act.
Dick Ryan has a grant application for the NYS Ag and Markets to fill out.
In the past we have gotten close to $500,000.
Land Preservation Coordinator ~ Should be done in July.
2% Transfer Ta× - Dick suggested perhaps a round-table discussion with
the Land Preservation Committee, the Town Board, Attorneys, Joe Gergella,
Fred Thiele and Pat Acompora should be held. Ray passed out his suggestions
and findings on the 2% ta× to the Committee.
Dick said that Fred Lee and Jim PimPs appointment to the Committee will be up
in July and hoped that they would remain on the committee. Jim Pim said he
would be leaving.
The next meeting of the Land Preservation Committee will be held on Monday,
June 26, 2000.
With no further business to be conducted, the meeting was adjourned at
9:50 p.m.
~espect fully submi~tted,
