SOUTHOLD TOWN PLANNING BOARD
September 20, 1966
A regular meeting of the Southold Town Planning'Board
was held on Tuesday, September 20, 1966, at the Town Office,
Southold, New York, at 7:30 P.M.
There were present: MesSrs: JohnWickham, Chai~m~n;
Henry Moisa, Alfred Grebe, William Unkelbach.
Also present: Otto Van Tuyl, Consultant; Lawrence Tuthill,
P.E.; Raymond Dean,-Sup't of Highways; Howard Terry, Building
Inspector.
Mr. Van Tuyl submitted a map of the land to be developed
by'South Fork-Development~Corp at'Bayview, Southold, New York.
It was the opinion of the Planning Board that further discussion
on this development be held over until the applicants arepresent.
On motion.by'Mr. Moisa, seconded by Mr. Unkelbach, it was
RESOLVED that-t~e following annual estimate be submitted
to the Southold Town Board for the. fiscal year beginning
January 1, 1967:

The Board request'an increase in salary in view of the
increase in the amount of work to be done by this Board.

A letter.was received from the New York-State Federation
of Official Planning Organizations, advising of~the 28th Annual
Planning Institute to be held October 23-25, 1966, at ~t~ Nevele
Country'Club inEllenvile. Mr. Wickham and Mr. UnkelbaC~"would
like to attend this Institute.
Mr. O. Kouros appeared before the Planning ~oar~ for
approval of a road to run north and south between Kouros'Romd
and New Suffolk~Avenue, New Suffolk~ New York. The'Chairman
advisedMr. Kouros that the'Planning Board request a letter
from him stating his intention to turnthe proposed road over
to~e Town of Southold. Mr. Kouros was further advised thatthe
Town will not accept'dedication of thisroad until there are
houses built on the lots along the road.
On motion by'Mr. Grebe, seconded by'Mr. Moisa, it-was
RESOLVED that preliminary'approval be granted to the proposed
road.to be constructed and run between'Kouros Road and. New Suffolk
~Avenue~ New Suffolk, New York, as shown on the map survey for
O. Kouros~ dated March 18, 1952, map by Otto Van Tuyl &'-Son.
Vote of the Board: Ayes:- Mr. Wickham, Mr. Moisa, Mr. Grebe,
Mr. Unkelbach.

Mr, Daniel~SmithL. appeared befDre the Board in regard to
the subdivision to be developed byDaniel T., George,Herbert,
andWitliam B. Smith, located at-Southold. The construction
of a proposed dike, ~ts size and exact location was discussed.
Discussion was held on whether or'not dredging would be done
by the Town Highway~Department or by The County-Dredge.
The location of the highway~in the subdivision will be
as shown on the final maps byAlden W. Young. Mr. Smith
agrees to reach an agreement with Miss Howell on the right of
way which she holds title to.
The performance bond for the roads in this subdivision was
also discussed. The elevation or'the roads in regard to drainage
was discussed and'whether or not a leaching basin was necessary.
The original bond for the r~adS was set at $12,000, however, this
was based on the old Town Highway'Road Specifications.
On motion by"Mr. Grebe, seconded by'Mr. Moisa, it was
RESOLVED that a letter be written to theSouthold Town
Board stating that in view of the fact that-this subdivision
has been held up and that the new highway specifications entail
further construction, the Planning Board suggest 'that the
amountof the performance bond be increased to a total figure
of $18,000.

Howard Terry, BuildingInspector, advised the Planning
Board of a tist'of sign regulations suggested by the "Pro
Sign Group".
On.motion by Mr. Wickham~ seconded by Mr. Moisa, it was
RESOLVED'that the Planning Board has reviewed the request
of the "pro sign group", and find them, without exception, to
be unreasonable, and entirely-unsuitable tothe Town of Southold;
its background and probable future development.
Vote of the Board: Ayes:- Mr. Wick~am, Mr. Moisa, Mr. Grebe,
Mr. Unketbach.
Mr. Van Tuyl presented to the Planning Board a preliminary
map of land to be developed byBirch Properties, Inc. Property
located at'the north end of'Duck~Pond Road,~ Cutchogue, New
York. This s~bdivision would contain approximately 16 lots
all of minimu~size and over. The~Planning'Board agreed to hold
this subdivision plan over.until the next-regular meeting of
the Board.
The next-regular meeting of the Planning Board will be
held at 7:30 P.'M.-, Tuesday, ~ October 18, 1966, at
the Town Office, Main~ROad~ Southold, New York.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 P.M.
