HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/13/2005Town of Southold Hamlet Study MEETING MINUTES GREENPORT WEST HAMLET STAKEHOLDERS MEETING WITH THE TOWN BOARD, April 13, 2005, 7:30pm Stakeholders Present: Don Leslie, Jr., Peter Russo, Gail Horton, Tanya Palmore, Megan McCamey and Dennis McMahon. Kev Stakeholder Recommendations': · The name "Greenport West" does not acknowledge that the hamlet also is East · The Village more than adequately serves as the hamlet center · Encourage natural buffers in front of buildings, promote consistency of appeal and enhance landscaping throughout Route 25 corrido~possibly approach Hudson City Savings to finance this landscaping. · Enforce laws to remove unnecessary clutter in front of stores · Enhance existing trails by Moore's Woods and Chapel Lane · Enforce uniform beach regulations · Put signalized crosswalk at 7/11 for school children and carnival goers · Promote public access at Port of Egypt · Storm water runoff on Route 48 should be replicated elsewhere where needed · Traffic calming measures are necessary on Route 48 to slow down ferry traffic. Collaboration with Orient and East Marion stakeholders to make recommendations to address ferry traffic. · Undeveloped soundfront properties is critical to preserve viewscape...Clark's Beach could become open space for the Town. Viewscape of bay should also be considered for any future development. · Consider future development for senior housing with public pool at KO campground. · Continue stakeholder involvement. Next Steps: · Supervisor informed stakeholders that the Transportation Committee and Planning Board would review recommendations and provide feedback to Town Board and appropriate Town agencies. The meeting adjourned at 8:45 pm.
