HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/31/2008Minutes of the Hamlet of Greenport Stakeholders meeting March 31, 2008, 5:30 p.m. Peconic Landing, Greenport, N.Y. Attendee Stakeholders: Victor Brown Melanie Norden, Co-Secretary Diane Gilmore Sylvia Holzberg Nelia Pumhagen Absent: Mariel Dobler, Co-Secretary Peter Russo Jill Dunbar The meeting opened with a discussion of the stakeholder reception hosted by the Town earlier in the month. M. Norden conveyed P. Russo's concern regarding whether any of our stakeholder long and short term implementation recommendations projects will be dealt with/undertaken/remedied by either the Planning Boarrd or the Town's newly appointed Implementation Committee. It was agreed that Melanie Norden would send an email to the Planning Board, requesting a status report on our request for a 3-way light at the comer of Main Street/Sound Road, since the summer tourist season will soon be upon us. It was also noted that all our concerns re "blight" along Rt. 25 have gone unresolved. M. Norden reported on the Group for the East End's presentation to the Town Board's work session on its grant application for funding for Town/Village hiking/biking trails. As it turns out, the kayak trails will NOT be included in this first grant application, the total requested amount of which is approximately $185,000. Though the Town Board would have liked to have seen additional information, it agreed, in principle, to lend its support to the grant. The Group claims that it will receive none of the grant monies, all of which will go either to the Town or Village. N. Pumhagen requested that Victor Brown provide a summary of the activities of the Kayak Committee and its progress on the Kayak Race scheduled for early June. Victor reported that the Committee agreed to (1) limit the number of race enrollees to 100; (2) that it has raised no funds as yet, but has a plan for fundraising which will be implemented in the next few weeks; and (3) that the Committee will again meet in early May. Stakeholders requested that Victor invite the Committee and its Chairman, Ural, to its next meeting, scheduled for 4/28. Victor agreed to contact Ural and invite him to make a summary presentation on the Race at that meeting. Diane Gilmore outlined the Greenport Business Improvement District's plans for its first ever Derby Day, to be held May 3rd. It is hoped that the event will become a yearly one. Merchants throughout the Village will participate, there will be a dedication of the old "horse watering trough" (behind the Arcade); derby "specials" will be offered at Village restaurants; prizes will be awarded, including some of a derby Hat contest; etc. Stakeholders wished Diane great luck and expressed enthusiasm for the event concept. The next meeting will be held on April 28, 2008 at Peconic Landing at 5:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Melanie Norden, Co-Secretary
