Don Leslie chaired the meeting. Stakeholders approved the minutes of the 1/14 meeting.
The evening's discussion focused on the agenday for the group's upcoming meeting with the Planning Board on
2/25. M. Norden presented a revised draft agenda based on group's identified concerns at its previous meetings, as
well as an updated list of the Short and Long Term Implementation Projects.
The group again discussed Peter Russo's concerns re annexation and being "kept in the loop"/consulted by the
Town and Village. All agreed that the annexation issue was likely a "non-starter," but agreed to discuss with the
PB the need for "procedures" for keeping stakeholders "in the loop" re such discussions in the future between the
Village and the Town.
The following changes/additions/deletions to the agenda for the PB (previously reviewed at the group's 1/14
meeting) were made:
· Eliminate the discussion of the car wash on 4th Street, since it is soley a Greenport Village issue
· Request an update on the status of the building height zoning regulations as proposed to the Town by its
Architectural Review Board two or so years ago, but never adopted
· Explore/suggest waterfront "vista protection" legislation
· Request legislation to be drafted banning clear cutting and assign more responsibilities and control to the
Town's Tree Committee. Explore the current fines for clear cutting to determine if they are actual
disincentives and, if not, increase those fines and revert proceeds to the Tree Committee for
replacement/future plantings
· Ask for immediate enforcement of "blight" regulations, and encourage a Town effort to clean up properties
west of7-11 to Port of Egypt on Rt. 25, already designated a "scenic corridor" by New York State
· Explore the purchase (with preservation, Town or Land Trust $$$) of the "Old Barge" property as a
possible Southold Town Nature Center," and stress the importance of immediate action since the property
is currently for sale
The next meeting will be held on February 10, 2008 at Peconic Landing at 5:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Melanie Norden, Co-Secretary
