Peter Russo chaired the meeting, Stakeholders approved the minutes of the December 10, 2007 meeting.
Peter reported on a recent meeting he held with David Nyce in preparation for our public meeting. They
discussed the public meeting and Nyce's concerns regarding the Village, including annexation, and the need to
generate good paying jobs for young people. One idea of Nyce's is to establish an artist colony.
Stakeholders briefly discussed the importance and appropriateness of encouraging marine-related businesses
and industries, and how some had already established a successful foothold on the North Fork, such as Sea
Tow, Mills Sail Makers, STIDD, etc. Other opportunities might include apprentice boat building, carpentry,
building renovation programs, all of which would train young people in marketable skills, while establishing
successful North Fork businesses.
Stakeholders also discussed the Greenport Gateway project. M. Norden suggested that a design competition, a
la Mitchell Park, could be set up, with the Greenport BID underwriting the first prize. That topic will be
discussed in detail at a future meeting.
Peter Russo presented a revised agenda for the public meeting. He indicated that in his opening remarks he
would stress the the three "Hs" --- hub, halo, and hamlet, and that our Hamlet, and the North Fork, represent the
last chance to "get it right" on Long Island.
M. Norden will prepare Sign-In sheets, and Sylvia will bring a basket for suggestions from attendees who may
not wish to speak publicly. Stakeholders stressed the need to generate enthusiasm and response among
attendees, to listen to all responses, and to stress that Stakeholders are advisory only to the Town and that we do
not have answers to all the questions which will be raised. It was agreed that stakeholders would meet at 9:00
a.m. to set up the meeting.
The next stakeholder meeting will be held on Monday, January 14, 2008, at 5:30 p.m. at Peconic Landing.
Respectfully submitted,
Melanie Norden
